Has anyone else notice how quickly the battery fluid dries out on the original Hinkley bikes?
Several solutions.
1. Re-locate battery to a cooler area (Why did they have to put it there in the first place?).
2. Install a heat shield. (Has anyone tried this?).
3. Use a gel type battery.

Can anyone tell me if a gel battery would be a straight forward swap for the original battery on a 92 Trident? Or does it require some electrical jiggery-pokery (now theres a good word for all you guys on the other side of the pond!).

The main cause is linked to the fact than the alternator is doing a (too?) good job ....

Check that your regulator is working well, tension should not grow ovver 15 Volts at 5000 Rpm..

Think to add check water level monthly in summer time... And if your battrey is a litlle bit old and get hot, change it..

A well maintained Yuasa YB14LA2 last 3 years or more, you can get it for +- 30 €..

It's largely because Triumph didn't use remote sensing on their voltage regulator.

It's a fixed-voltage regulator that maintains a constant voltage on the rotor -- regardless of system demands -- so it can't read the output to the battery and adjust accordingly.

If they'd spent another dollar it wouldn't be a problem.

Jim

get a YTX14AHL-BS. Its a non maintenance battery and a straight drop in replacement for your old battery

Has this changed with later models?
