D*** think stopped working....so yesterday after throwing a burger in my face at McDonalds I hop onto ma scoot and take off.....ofcourse the sidestand was still down. Luckily enough I was still in the parking lot when I heard the s***** of metal on asphalt.

Don't know if it's normal that these things stop working once in a while but it sure put a little scare in me....what if I had been doing a left in high speed...jeez.

:brk: Now, I know that it's a first to kick up the stand when getting on the bike...but hey, it just kinda slipped my mind ok!!

Now what?? Do I need a rocket science degree to fix it??? :???:

It's a pretty easy fix. Chances are that the plunger is covered in dirt and a good clean will sort it out, but if not it's a case of undoing 2 bolts and unclipping the harness. These switches are comman to most models so you can often pick them up cheap on ebay.

Two years ago, I had the opposite problem; every time I put her in gear the engine would stop. The plunger on the sidestand switch which is depressed when the sidestand is down, wouldn't spring out when the sidestand went up.

I have to assume that, with your bike, despite the sidestand being down and the plunger being depressed, the circuit is not being made. Like Mick says, I think it's also a likely assumption that it's the same root cause - crud inside the switch.

I fixed mine by pulling the switch off, inverting it so the plunger was uppermost and then giving it a good squirt of switch cleaner whilst working the plunger.

I had the same problem with the clutch safety switch. It was just gunk in where the little plunger is. They do get sticky after a while, especially if you ride a lot in nasty weather.

I put up with it all last season, and finally this Spring I replaced the little switch, and kept the old one as a spare (after cleaning!).
