Oil Lamp problem
Cruising along quite happily on my 01 Adventurer at about 110 MPH,
(nice road porn) and to my horror the oil lamp illuminated!!!
Killed the engine and glided to a halt, oil level was fine, oil was about 12mths and 2000 miles old. Started engine after a few mins and oil lamp extinguished and stayed out. Now have new mobil1 and filter, all I can imagine was oil was 'frothing' and developed and air lock as pressure tested and found good pressure, bike has done 19500 miles and love it too bits.
Has anyone ever encoutered the same or similar problem.

The wire from the oil pressure switch (just below the cam chain tensioner, right side rear) snakes around the back of the engine. If it chafes somewhere & shorts to ground it will cause the warning light to show. Happens quite a bit. Always possible there's an issue with the switch itself too. Not very likely an oil pressure problem but worth checking the switch operation, wires etc to be sure.

It was trying to tell you to slow the f- down, T3 classic brakes only work properly up to about 30!

Actually, there is a little known feature on these bikes - if that light stays on for over 10 seconds when exceeding 100 mph, the drogue chute deploys out of the air box. That's why the airbox is so big and difficult to remove
(I liked Mick's answer better)

l have just bought a TBS and it has done 250 miles and last night the oil light flickered on and off a mile from home. Has me a bit worried but l know the bike has been looked after , so l,ll top it up tomorow and keep an eye on it. What kind of oil mileage do you get from a 2003 TBS ?.

If I keep my cruising rpm below 4,500 rpm, it uses no oil at all. Over that it uses a noticeable amount but can't recall how much (when I was burning it up a bit across France).
One reason I like high (19t/42t) gearing.

My oil light issues
I noticed that my TBS oil light will come on if the bike gets soaked in a pouring rain. Not sure where the water intrusion is occuring, but one day I'll run through the harnesses and seal things up with di-electric grease and tape.
Oil system problems on these bikes are pretty rare. I think IrlMike's suggestion with the wire chaffing is a good place to start.
Re: Oil mileage. With 30,000 miles on the odo, I add about 1/2 quart between oil changes - usually every 3,000 miles. High speed riding accounts for most of the consumption. Usually I notice little or no oil usage when I'm just putzn around town or at low speed on the highways.
