Floating Front Rotor for Legend / EBC / MD629LS / MD 629 LS

Greetings,

I purchased a floating EBC MD629LS from www.whitebuffaloracing.com for $184 plus shipping. This rotor is listed for a Thruxton, not a Legend. A technician at EBC said another wrencher had given him the tip that this would interchange cleanly.

He was 99% correct. The lower caliper bolt is a hair too long and will foul on the rotor. Getting a shorter bolt or slipping a washer under the head easily resolves this.

I just thought I would pass along the info.

Happy cycling.

Since your has a floating caliper system, so it really isn't going to give you any performance gains. The advantage of a floating rotor system over a floating caliper is less unsprung weight. You haven't changed out the calipers though, so little advantage.

Probably looks a little cooler, though! Give us pics...

I have bought fixed rotors from these guys before. They have good prices...

Ah. I thought it would make a little warping less noticeable. In any event, I don't think I ride aggressively enough for it to make a big difference.

Pics will come soon...

The biggest advantage is actually that floater don't "cone" in the same way as solid rotors under very heavy breaking. So there is a potential advantage to this mod. Now whether the relatively weedy front caliper on a legend can actually get so hot as to cone the stock rotor is another question.

Well, I suppose it might, if you get any warping. Floating calipers also cool more quickly, so they might be less prone to warpage.

Can't think of a down side to it - only a few hypotetical ups. You essentially paid the same for an OEM rotor (seen them on-line for $180), so I'd call the cost negligible.

Not my experience of them, but as I said before they are supposed to improve performance by not coning - and of course a cooler rotor brakes better, or so I'm told

Thanks Avatar! One of the reasons that I haven't done the 6-pot upgrade is that I didn't think I could find a floating rotor anymore. (the other reason is that I don't want to spend the money )
