Thunderbird Rear Wheel change 16" -to 17"?

I have been checking out the tyres available for my thunderbird 2002 model which has a 150/80/16 rear wheel fitted as standard and found that this is a very limited size as far as choices of tyres, there is a lot more to choose from in 17" size, has anyone change to 17" and will the Thunderbird Ledgend or Sport wheel which I believe to be 17" fit on or should I just stick with the standard rim size. If so what would you blokes recommend in the way of tyres, I have the standard Pirelli Dragons on at the moment.
Cheers,
Rick.

The wheel off a legend or a TBS will fit straight in or you can get a chromed 17 x4.5 rim laced to your hub to match your front rim which would be the cheapest way out if you want matching wheels.I am about to get a 5.5x17 rim laced to my legend hub to allow fitment of a 180 width tire so I will have a spare akront alloy 17x4.5 rim if your interested.

Thanks bueller, I would rather stick with the chrome rims, old habits die hard and I like shiny stuff, are the 17 x 4.5 chrome rims readily available?
Cheers, rick.

Yes I would think so the wheel builder seems confident he can get 17x5.5 rim for me no problems and I would guess a 4.5 in chrome would be more common.

Swapped out TBS front and reat on my T-bird cafe' conversion...worked perfectly as long as you install the TBS swingarm which is just a little bit longer. A much better selection of tyres...obviously! Wish the Dunlop 616's came in 160's, they have a very aggressive tread that compliments the cafe' look and they run great, at least when I rode a bike that had the 180's!
