Rear brake holding on.

Hi all, after recentley replaced my rearcaliper after the pad retaining pin seized/sheared off in it and I have noticed that first thing from cold the rear brake holds on quite badly. After a mile or so every thing loosens off and normal operation is resumed ie brake on, release pedal, brake releases normally .However if bike is left to cool for half an hour same symptoms.Anyone here got any suggestions or experienced this sort of thing before, any input greatly appreciated,Rob.

The replacement caliper's pucks may not be moving freely enough.

Or perhaps the caliper is not fully centered. To figure that out, remove the pads, then move the caliper to one face bears against the rotor, then the other. The mounts should be right smack dab in the middle. Otherwise shim them.

Are the new pads wearing evenly? if they are wearing on one portion of either pad more than another, the caliper is slightly askew.
Do the brakes pulse when lightly applied (when moving) The rotor could be dinged, or if you removed it, there could be some grit preventing perfect allignment. I supose the same could be true if there is something interfering with the caliper being fully seated against the mount.

Try putting it on a centerstand or someother stand; have a friend gently apply the brakes with you watching from the rear. If the rotor or caliper deflects, either a puck is sticking or the caliper is out of allignment. YOu may have to be touching the caliper and the rotor to feel the deflection.

I dunno. Keep us posted if you figure anything out.

Cheers for starting ball rolling Leo, I know the calipers good as I fitted a new seal kit. It only has one piston and slides freel on its pins, no signs of warped disc. Im thinking along the lines of the master cylinder actuating rod may need adjusting ie shortening as it seems theres not much freeplay at pedal so maybe its holding hydraulic pressure?

Hi, Complete newbie here and only bought my Tbird today so don't take my advice however I once had a problem with brakes locking on and after all else failed it turned out to be the rubber brakeline had some perishing inside and was acting like a one way valve that would slowly release.
Just a thought
cheers
Murray

Rear Brake holding on

Hi All,
My bike was thrown down the road. The pivot bolt of the rear brake lever was bent. This caused the rear brake to be 'on' most of the time. The resulting heat build up caused the disc to warp (badly). Am currently overhauling front and rear brake systems. Please check rear brake lever action. Regards, Thunder_ZA
