travelogue
There may be a better spot for this, but I recognize and respect so many of the familiar names in this forum that I thought I'd put it here. Simple question, really: with snow on the ground and the Legend in the basement, I need a motorcycle fix - can anyone recommend some good books about motorcycle trips? I've read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and have another book on order from the library, but have not found much in the way of a good motorcycle travelogue. I really want to do some long trips myself at some point, and would really love to read some good books that describe some great trips. It is my hope that any suggestions might lift the spirits of other hibernating riders as well. Thanks! (time to go throw another log in the woodstove)

Sounds like you need a project. I've found old service manuals quite entertaining. 'Course, it was 60 degrees here today...

traveller's tales
Jupiter's Travels by Ted Simon is always a good one, but beware, it causes itchy feet!
There is another GREAT story from the 1930's, titled One Man Caravan if I recall, all about an American's journey from London, heading Eastwards around the world, ending up back in London on a Douglas twin. Can't remember the author, though.
Then there is World Understanding on Two Wheels by a guy called Mr Weirdy Dweeb. I actually made his name up cos I can't remember it either. But the title is kosher. He spent about 7 years riding a Tri twin around the world. Well, two years riding and 5 years waiting for spares to be sent from Meriden, actually.
Then there is the best-seller, called Why Don't We All Get Out There And Do It Ourselves Rather Than Reading About It.
Wish I could follow my own advice there!
Happy reading.

Thanks for the suggestions. I also found this through the Tiger forum last night, and it is very good.

Any classic owners out there also have a Tiger? I hadn't paid much attention to these until last night, and now have found bike #2 to add to the stable someday Sounds like a perfect companion to my Legend.

Peter Egan's books "Leanings" have helped me through a lot of miserable evenings brooding about winter..

Oh yes, let's not forget Sir Ewan McGregors two books: Long Way Round, and Long Way Down. Both should be a good read about a trip around the world...

For inspiration, you might try:

It will take some wandering through the site and the links but it's a fascinating place in an odd sort of way....

I think you have got the titles wrong... the second one should be 'long moan down' cos that's all they did on every episode of the tv series!
