Beautiful work on the cap, but isn't the point supposed to be to have a flip up cap so the paint doesn't chip and fall into the tank?

I received my replacement cap from New Bonneville today. It's nice. I'll be installing it tomorrow. As for the paint chips in the fuel line: First thing I am doing is installing an in-line fuel filter between the petcock and the carbs. That way that little filter at the end of the fuel line (carb side) doesn't get plugged up with paint chips. It's a heckuva lot harder to remove the carbs to get to that filter than it is to pull the tank and replace an inline filter.

New Bonneville gas cap installed. Very easy to do, fits right. It really sticks out on top of the tank due to it's size and bulkiness but it's nice looking and I like the flip-up feature.

No, for me it is the look - I could care less about the chipping paint. IMHO, this is a minor issue that has been blown out of proportion.

Jan - There are lots of folks that stripe around here - you can get it done at most any bike rally. I think the stripe thickness is about .200"? Use a stripe applicator at that thickness, and a steady hand...

The fella that applies all the coach stripes at the Triumph factory is quite an artist. They did an article on him in Torque magazine once...

Cheers,

Scot

Cheers Jan.
It may be a minor issue for some but a major issue for others. I have spent a lot of time r & r'ing carbs and doing tons of other work on this motorcycle. So any preventitive measures that I can take to limit the amount of problems I may incur works for me. I admit the New Bonneville gas cap is large and sticks up quite a bit on top of the tank, but one can get used to it. Besides, the flip-up feature is convenient--very convenient. And, I didn't throw the original gas cap away. So now I have options.

You're thread got hijacked in a major way.
With all due respect to you, Something facinating that came out of this thread was Jan sharing his work on the home fabricated cap.
That was/is a treat that inspired me!
Mag, good to hear that the vendor made things right with you on the cap.
Enjoy!

in line filter

Just wanted to mention that I tried one of those clear glass inline filters, which has replaceable paper elements. It looked like it would fit fine, but after cutting and clamping, it was just too big to fit under the tank. I ended up just getting another new fuel line, and forgetting the filter, as the cleaning of the petcock and duckbill filters really wasn't too bad. I did notice under just the right angle of sunlight one day while filling up that I have some surface rust in the tank. I may try to take my tank to a local radiator shop that treats the inside of auto fuel tanks with this permanent black coating that seals and prevents future rust. If I do this, I'll post the results in case anyone else has this problem.

Don't bother, do it yourself with Petseal. http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/Petseal.html

New Bonneville?

Just curious if New Bonneville made it right regarding the Monza cap....I have had nothing but great customer service from them in the past for my Speedmaster. Also, I am going to need to do something about my gas cap on the TB....do you like it?
