Scorpion EXO-1000
so i picked up a new helmet a little over 3 weeks ago. i tried on a ton of helmets from bunch of manufacturers, and honestly the only helmet that fit were the scorpion helmets. i previously had an EXO-400, but it had packed out a ton and was looking for a second helmet anyway.
i was really looking for an arai phil reed model, but it just didnt fit me right. out of all the helmets i tried on the Scorpion EXO-1000 fit the best, and i went with a small. and for what it's worth, i have an egg-shaped head and my EXO-400 was a medium.
At first the EXO-1000 was very tight, and to be honest, a bit uncomfortable. after wearing the helmet for a day or two it actually started cutting the back of my ears when removing the helmet, and hurt like hell everytime i took it off. i was pretty pissed and was getting ready to get rid of the helmet when i a co-worker told me his EXO-1000 did the same thing at first. so i gave it another shot and eventually it didnt jack up my ears anymore, but was still way tight.
last week just for comparison i took a ride with my EXO-400 and after a couple miles had to turn around to go back home and switch to the EXO-1000.
It has packed out quite a bit and feels pretty good now, and i am very pleased with it, just took some time to pack out and mold to my head.
the helmet is noticably heavier when you hold the 1000 in one hand and a 400 in the other, but when it's on my head i can't tell and have never suffered any fatigue on long rides. the fit and finish is great, the helmet feels solid and well made.
the two things that i guess really attract people to this helmet are the internal sun visor and the inflatable cheek pads. to be totally honest i think the internal visor is crap, and the one that is included with the helmet is a waste. it's not dark enough. there are aftermarket visors out there that are darker that you can purchase. i couldnt get used to it, and eventually it gave me a headache which i think was from the change in brightness when looking ahead through the internal visor, and then looking down through the clear visor down at the speedo and tach. also, i dont really ever use the inflatable cheek pads. their nice, but not necessary. i have heard that some people can get rid of wind noise when inflating them, but this isnt the case with my helmet.
the one thing i liked about my EXO-400 was the ventilation, and the visor NEVER fogged up on me, NEVER! i have ridden with that helmet in below freezing temps and 90+ temps, and never fogged up. the EXO-1000 is way hotter than the EXO-400, and the ventilation is pretty much non-existant. this helmet does not vent at all, and the visor usually fogs up pretty quickly, and the one feature that i am using quite often is the ability to just crack the visor open. this gets rid of the fogging issue, but also creates more noise. also, the helmet isnt the quietest helmet, and when my head is in a certain position the wind sounds like a crazy mexican air horn on a low-rider!
but aside from all the negative things i have mentioned about the helmet, i purchased it because of the fit. like i mentioned beofre, it fits way better than any other helmet i tried on, including other scorpion models. the added features are useless to me, and the helmet is pretty hot and fogs up easily, but i can live with those downfalls to have a better fitting lid, which is the most important factor to consider when buying a new lid.

I have the matte black exo-1000 and haven't worn it for any length of time yet.
I'll get back to you about your b!tching.

Exo1000
Have (2) EXO-700's and was thinking about the EXO-1000. Great value for the price...two of these for one Arai RX-7!!! Have you seen the new EXO-700...NEON Green, amazing conspicuity. ABout time someone used this color in a helmet, can't miss it for sure, even the tiniest bit of this hue stands out even in the distance.

Agree about the visor comment. Also I like to ride with the sheild up if possible, and the visor directs the wind directly into the eyes.
but it does fit well and was one of the few that did not make my glasses painful.

I just bought a EXO-1000 in gloss black. I have not had a problem with the visors fogging up but everytime I stop or go below 20mph with the visor completely closed my glasses fog up. Does anybody have any suggestions for what I can do to keep my glasses fog free?

After wearing this helmet for a few thousand miles I feel his b!tching was warranted. My helmet fogs up quickly in only 50 degree weather, ventilates poorly, and even though I bought the blue snap in visor it doesn't shade from glare. It also gives me a headache. As must as I like the gimmick of the drop down visor the added weight is just not worth it.
I never use the pump system as my helmet is quite tight enough when wearing it, and if i do pump it up it pushes my jaw forward causing jaw strain and makes my ears pop oddly.
The vents on top don't work at all, and when closed one of them causes a whistle which DRIVES ME NUTS.
With all that said, don't buy this helmet. Buy a visor bag and store your day/night screen in it.
