Helmet security

How is everyone "securing" their helmet on/near their bike? I've never really seen a lot of positive comments on the various cycle forums I've visited over the years on helmet locks.

I just bought a new full-face, and while I'd rather not carry it around with me, I would if need be. Thanks.

I use one of those thin cable lock systems. I only leave my helmet alone while having lunch or similar. I don't bother to lock if at a dealership or open house, bike meet, etc. If a thief really wants your helmet, they will have the tools to steal it. You could always carry a heavy 3' chain with bulky padlock, but I'd sooner carry my helmet. I only sport ride so I don't need to leave my helmet for long periods. To be honest, I rarely lock my helmet. It goes on the ground under the bike by the front wheel. But, I don't live or ride in a city anymore. My habits would be different there.

This type of lock looks interesting. Stronger than the thin cable I suppose. However, anything can be stolen.

Cable lock for a handgun. Best option I found without bolting on one of those gaudy big helmet locks.

I don't lock my for long periods either, maybe just to run into a store or something like that. I put one of these on my Thruxton and couldn't be happier. It's a bit on the pricey side compared to a cable lock but, I like not having to bring a lock with me.

My Youtube posting is for the same type of lock. The issue can be that these locks are keyed the same so someone determined could buy the same lock and have the keys to yours. Probably not very common an issue though.

I carry the helmet with me. Now on trips in the mountains/country, I find that in small towns I can hang my helmet by the chin bar on the passenger footpeg. Country folk seem to respect others property and it is there when I am ready to ride.

I use a Master Lock steel cable lock system through the pillion grab rails of my Tiger and through the front piece of my Shark helmet (at least it remains flat on the seat), works for me ...

I got 5 of these years ago from the California Highway Patrol for my guns. Then I bought a safe and put these to better use locking my helmet when needed.
