Silver Mirrored Shields

Does anybody ride with silver mirrored shield? I really like the mirrored look from the outside, and I'd like to get one for my HJC. I'm not sure what it does to the rider's vision. Will it be tinted like a smoke/dark shield? Is it wearable at night? I certainly don't want to have to worry about carrying a clear shield around if the silver one doesn't work after dark. Anybody have experience with these? Here's an example.

Thanks!

Gixxer - I ride with mirrored, Blue Iridium and Dark Smoke ( Just depends on what mood I am in when wearing my Shoei because the visor switch is so easy )Dark Smoke on Suomy and it stays on because the switch is a PITA.

The mirror visor is great during the day as it serves as a light pair of sunglasses - it does not restrict vision in any way and until you stop at a light and pull the visor up you won't even notice it is tinted. I would as much as possible stay away from using it at night - that little bit of tint becomes very dark when ambient light gets low. If I am going to be riding all day or near twilight I take a clear visor with me (Phoenix Jacket has a pocket built in for this - neat feature) and switch near dusk. This is why I am such of fan of Shoei Visor system - it just can 't be beat (15 sec visor switch)

Oxford makes a neat carrying case that straps around your chest to hold a shield you can't even tell its there.

Just a neat BTW don't wear your polarized sunglasses and your mirrored shield at the same time - you get some pretty psychedelic light refraction going on.

that is a decent price, but you can usually get very gently used ones for $20 if you lurk long enough - I have gotten several this way

The Brits have a rating system (sort of like ours for window tint) that rates the shields in THE % TRANSMITTTANCE of light. They actually give tickets over there for too dark a shield!! I am not sure of the actual numbers but the helmet mfgr's do ahve these shields rated like -19%, 24% etc. last month Superbike has an article on it. Dark is no good at night!!

As I can attest from a night ride when I was detained longer than expected and had to ride home with my dark shield flipped part way up so I could peek under it and see the road. I now carry a pair of yellow optic sunglasses should I be stupid again. (Like that'll ever happen!)
