Personalized

I have a friend that is an incredible artist. I'm thinking about getting him to paint one of my helmets and personalize it for me. I'm thinking Air brush, and then some sort of polymer finish.

Am I as crazy as it sounds is there anything I should look out for?

Or is it such a silly idea that I shouldn't bother?

Someone out there give me some advice.

Hi Grumpy,

Airbrushing a crash helmet is a great idea and a great way of personalizing.

Not everybody likes it but it's a good way to have one off products.

I use a product called Auto Air by Createx Paints. It's a water based acrylic (no fumes and none toxic) and very easy to use and is compatible with all urethane clears (top clear coat).

Hope this helps

Andy

Thanks!

Thanks I that's just what I needed!

Stupid question though I know the answer.
Dose it affect the safety of the brain case?

Answer: no.

Had to ask though!

If I can get him to put down the splif long enough to get it done before I have to leave I will post the pics.

If you know what you want, and it's not available stock, you gotta go custom:

Check with the helmet manufacturer what paints, what prep, etc.... to use

You DON'T want to damage the shell

Missed him

The friend that worked for DC comics was .... underground for a few weeks. So I couldn't find him.

I did get a hold of another friend who's work is great but not really wha I wanted on my lid.

Total cost with out shipping: 120 US.

No Splif.

And it will take him a month or more to get it done!
