I wore a beard for 7 years to cover the scars on my upper lip and cheek. Guess how I got those...

I don't crash.
Thats a pretty bold statement. You must ride with a force field around you that repels cagers as they incrouch into your area. Be carefull out there, Weasel.

In a certain respect, I do. I knew that statement was gonna raise some eyebrows. I've got a very disciplined awareness and philosophy on riding that works for me and has done so for the better part of 30 years. Take it for what it is, but it's served me well to date. That said, I may go down tomorrow and I'll live or die by the consequences.

You can get a convertable. The only problem is, you never know when you'll NEED the full face. I'm living proof that they save lives. Get an Arai RX7 or top of the line Shoei. Great helmets for comfort and safety.

I can attest to the added benefit to a full face, as I would have a different face than I do were it not for the full face I wear. It is also a flip up model. Caberg/Justisimo/Jarow It has a metal to metal latch system, versus plastic catches in some cheaper brands. It also has a metal bar running through the chin piece for additional strength.

I would have some serious facial issues were it not for my helmet. I also would have nasty scars on my hand, were it not for the gloves, and messed up feet were it not for the boots, a messed up knee were it not for the Roadcrafter riding suit, and all I had was a 15 mph highside. I did manage a vertical round-house sucker punch to the tar, and needless to say the tar won and I powderized my 5th metacarpal and fractured the 4th....

I like helmets.

I think of it this way I had a bad get off several years ago NO HELMET NO JACKET sunday ride in tshirt blue jeans and dewrag idot with the harley thing. The first thing I will say I wear helmet and jacket or I don't get on the bike Now. If I had been wearing a lettuce bowl type helmet I wouldn't of road rashed my scalp. If I hand been wearing a open faced helmet I wouldn't have road rashed my scalp or cut the back of my head open on the guard rail post or fracture my orbital socket around my left eye. If I had been smart enough to wear a full face helmet I wouldn't of nocked my front teeth out when I landed on the road, road rashed my scalp cut the back of my head open on the guard rail post or fractured my orbital socket. Learning from your own or someone elses mistakes PRICELESS. I just went yesterday and bought a brand new ICON alligance ss full face with air vents and a anitfog shield. Hung my KIWI kevlar up on the wall for retirement it served me well. Buy a new bike best mod or add on you can spend money on is a new helmet.

Its down to personal choice, whether you choose to look at all the data available and listen to both sides or not. If you land wrong wearing a full face you can break your neck as the chin bar will force your head back. Same situation in an open face and you are gonne get a messed up face. My crash/helmet experience is as follows-
Full face simpson being worn when car pulled out in front resulted in my creasing the roofline of the car with the helmet. The helmet saved my face, no doubts.
Full face Shoei being worn when mud on road sent me into a ditch at 60mph, I travelled 64ft from the bike. Helmet damage was all to the RHS. I was unconscious for 5min.
Caberg J1 Flip front worn when crashing whilst moped racing on tarmac at 40mph. Mild scuffing to back and side of lid, no damage to me.
Davida Open face worn when car turned right in front of me, I laid the bike down rather than go into the car. Scuffed my chin on the road, helmet has scuffs along the area above my right eye.
A point of note if you plan on wearing a flip front, it is illegal to ride with the front flipped open in the UK. The reason for this is that the helmets are tested with the fronts down, and in the case of the FF's with removable chin bar, with the chin bar removed as well. If you crash with the front flipped open it is hugely likely you will break your neck.

While I won't argue that a full-face or modular offers more protection, my own preference is for an open face. My current helmet of choice is an AGV Dragon: lightweight, comfortable, and has a half shield for eye protection.
