I am currently using an HJC CL-15. It keeps my nugget safe, but I know there are better helmets out there, so I'm looking to upgrade.

I'm sure there are thousands of opinions, so I'll narrow the discussion down a bit.

I'm looking at an Icon Domain in solid gloss silver. It seems a bit squiddy, but the construction seems strong, and I kinda like the way it looks. Anyone use Icon products that want to give a yay or nay?

The Domain is a nice helmet. It's carbon/kevlar and has a dual density liner, which is designed to protect your head from the smaller hits as well as the big one. Shields and replacement pieces are available from any dealer.

Here's a link to a fairly extensive review of many helmets, including Icon. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/ge...helmet_review/

Main take away from my reading is: most of the helmets out there are very good, so get one that fits... physically, aesthetically, and financially. Ride safe!

rstover, thanks for the link. I'll be checking that out quite a bit. I bought the HJC because it fit the best of all the ones I found, but it doesn't seem to be holding up to the test of time very well. I don't think longevity was its strong suit.

KaHonas,
Glad to share. FWIW I just made my decision on a new helmet after a couple months of shopping. I've had an Arai Quantum for years that's in good shape, but it's black and I wanted something a little brighter... not only for visibility but also for heat reflection during warm weather. I ended up ordering a Suomy Vandal. Fits me better than any other helmet I tried on and I love the graphics.

Here's another link, if you're interested: http://www.sandhillspowersports.com/...uomy_vandal_06

I ordered the Toseland.
Cheers
Roger

Huge debate over helmet shell construction and actually which protects best - bottom line is Snell cert may indeed not be the best protective helmet - there was a helmet question here just a week ago and this was discussed at length

Bottom line is if it fits like a glove and is comfortable for the long haul you cannot really make a poor choice protection wise with just about any DOT approved helmet on the market.

Ask around about venting and noise levels - I have never owned an Icon helmet so I can' t help here, with the protection debate ongoing go for fit, and then look at the rest like sheild replacement, venting etc.

Helmet Harbor ranks all helmets with fit, noise, comfort and quality. I found them very helpfull in making my choice.

Thanks for the link, Ted! They had a great write-up on a helmet that I could have wasted a lot of money on. I'm looking for a helmet with less noise and better build quality than my current (of which, the latter was all that the Icon had on mine, according to their review).

Guess I'll keep on shoppin'!
