OK...I'm a bit peeved especially after reading about this issue on a couple different web pages.
Today for the second time in one month the right side shield holder on my brand new Quantum II Retro has broken.
The first time happened when my dealer was showing me how the "Super AdSis" system worked and how easy it was to remove/replace the shield.
The second time was today just before I was taking my bike in for its first service. I opted to change my shield before I left as the sun was actually out and shining.
The good news is that my dealer is going to get me the parts. The bad news is I have to ride around with duct tape on my helmet.
Anyone else have/had this issue?

I went with the Arai for fit and reputation. Now I'm having serious second thoughts!

I feel like I just got :kck:

Yep broke mine. got the parts to fiix it. It seemed kind of delicate. My next helmet was an HJC Simple annd reliable but visor has a distortion in it and it bugs up super fast for some reason.

IMHO - Shoei has absolutely cornered the market on ease of shield replacement on the RF and x-eleven line. I will continue to buy Shoeis because of the fit it gives me, but also this is the selling point that would make me spend the extra $100 or so because I change my shield twice per day usually.

... is the ease of shield replacement really a deciding factor for ahelmet. My Caberg isn't tough at all and even if it was I've only done 2 replacements, so it wouldn't be a decding factor.

I really liked the Arai SignetGT I had a couple of years ago, BUT replacing the shield is a royal pain. I like wearing a dark shield during the day and switching to the clear one at night, which was always "scary" with the Arai. Replaced the Arai with a Scorpion which was surprisingly similar. Presently wearing an HJC. I would give the Arai the edge ONLY when it comes to the liner, which is the softest.

And after reading the comprehensive article about helmets in Motorcyclist magazine a couple of years ago has made a DOT, polycarbonate lid quite acceptable, even desirable.
Here's a link to Motorcyclist article.

Absolutely can be a deciding factor - If you have two helmets that are perfectly fitted, comfortable and meet the same safety standards you are looking for - I would go with the extra $100 and the Shoei just for this factor - I change at least twice daily for day and night riding. Should never be an initial factor looked at in helmet choice, but can certainly be a deciding factor much the same as graphics - frivolous, but often a deciding factor.

When night time comes, I just flip up the internal sunvisor. I don;t need two shields. I'm also in a northern latitude, not subject to the intense sunlight in southern climes.

My helmets are plain. Nor graphics... just a solid color... sometimes that can be hard to find...

:-D

I had my arai for under one year. I have had the shield off a few times with no problem. Then while replacing it one day the mounting plate broke around the plastic screws holding it to the shell on the left side. The dealer wouldn't look at it because it was over 30 days from purchase and arai plays e mail games for warranty work. They wouldn't even allow me to send it to them to see if it was a possible defect. They only gave me an 800 number for parts. That was after 5 different warranty inquirys I had to make because they read the claim, answer it briefly and with little to no info, then close the inquiry. ARAI Warranty is *****. It is comfortable but if you're on a road trip and in need, consider yourself the duct tape king. Last arai I'll ever own.
