I know why they broke. I already posted that.

Then you should be after Arai to fix the problem. So a $600 helmet breaks because you leave the visor in the up position for an extended period of time. The visor exerts more force on the sidepod in the up position. OK no problem there - increased force = breakage - still with you Said breakage is what we call a design flaw. If the helmet visor just sitting there had enough force to crack the sidepod with no other external force present the sidepod was not designed correctly to withstand normal use of the visor. If your theory is correct you should call Arai and they will replace your parts no questions asked. If the situation is exactly as you present it - the product is faulty. Storing your helmet with the visor up SHOULD NOT have any detrimental effect.

Well, I'd have to say that one broken helmet with the visor up is hardly "pretty conclusive". Why wouldn't the side pods break simply by opening and closing the visor while riding if they are too fragile to keep open while sitting on a shelf. Adding wind pressure on an open visor while riding is not a problem, but sitting on a shelf is?

Motorcyclist magazine, which has done a fair bit of research on helmets and is something of an authority in my mind, says you should store helmets with the visor open or removed to assist air circulation and to keep the helmet liner dry.

The neck roll on my Arai Signet GTR ripped while I was removing the liner for cleaning. My dealer sent the helmet to Arai and they replaced the entire helmet even though it was only a year old.

If I were you, I would make it Arai's problem...you paid big bucks, including a warranty. I'd insist they honour it.

My last post was almost a month ago on this subject - Seems like it has been dropped - Pay attention to the post date. If it is getting old stop reading. Seems to me the difference in opinions was between martin and myself and we have every right to defend our positions - if you don't like it don't read the thread

Ouch! I've been using my Arai Profile throughout the winter and flippin' the visor between smoke and clear during 30 deg. temps.
No problems yet, but I do appreciate the heads up on what you'all wrote here!
I have to admit though, that the plastic levers, pivots and detents sure make a nasty sound when swapping shields, but after a while you can develop a technique that smooths out the event.
Like they say in the instructions, facing the helmet away from you certainly helps and appears to be the ONLY method that works without straining the delicate parts.
