Haven't seen any reviews posted here, yet, so I thought I'd try and be the first (and try out this new forum, to boot).
Anyways, I just got my Shoei Multitec a couple weeks ago, and have a couple hundred miles experience. So far, I'm extremely pleased with the helmet:
1. Finally a flip-up that fits my skull. My Nolan 102 was close, but no cigar. I'd say the Multitec's fit is fairly close to my RF1000. Apparently, it's not common for riders with oval shaped heads to want a modular helmet.
2. It is pretty light, again, compared to my Nolan and other modular helmets I've seen reviewed. In fact, from the less than scientific approach of hanging the two helmets from each hand, I'd say the weight is pretty close to the RF1000.
3. It's fairly quiet. This has been pointed out in reviews (WebBikeWorld comes to mind), and I'm impressed. Albeit, I wear ear plugs and I'm on a fully faired bike, but I'd say it's as quiet, if not more so, than my RF1000. Definitely more so than the Nolan.
4. Everything else is typical Shoei quality...from the venting to the shield mechanism. I haven't had a chance to experience the venting in GA heat, but I'll know about that in a couple more months.
As for the negatives, they are fairly nominal:
1. Price is probably the biggest issue. I got a good deal on mine, but it's priced similarly to the Schubert C2. Of course, it is a Shoei, probably worth the price (that's how I justify it to myself and the Minister of War and Finance).
2. I sort of miss having the extra sun visor and anti-fog insert that came with my Nolan. However, fogging hasn't been too bad, out-side of at a stop in the cold morning. Next fall, I'll likely order their shield with pins and fog insert, but that'll likely cost $60 or so.
3. Why don't more helmets come with removable liners? Not a big deal for me, as I wear a skull cap beneath my liner, but I'd prefer the option to pull out the liner and throw it in the wash.
4. Last, but not least, though I do not have a Bruce Campbell chin, I still find that my chin is always touching the front of the helmet. Not a big deal, but makes my beard tickles my chin. Maybe I'll affix some Velcro on the inside, so I have something to scratch against. For the record, I had similar issue with my Nolan, so maybe I do have a large chin?
In summary, I'm very happy with this investment. Heck, I find myself reaching for the Multitec more than the RF1000. We'll see when the newness wears off.
Oh, and the Red Wine color is a pretty good match for my '06 Sunset Red Sprint (just a shade darker)...an added bonus!
