Roof Boxer V8 lid - anyone got one?
I have recently realised that my Arai RX7 is now around 9 years old and despite it living in it's original helmet bag and enscounced in the cupboard most of the time it is probably a good idea to get another.
Looking around both the net and types of lids friends already have I had narrowed it down to either the Caberg Justissimo/Shoei Multi whatzit/Roof Boxer V8. And for style the Roof wins hands down (safety first, style second). The 'flip-over' style does it for me as I wear glasses and the open face option in town is a bonus.
Now I can find a lot of reviews on the original Boxer and Boxer V model which are not always flattering (rain leaks/breaking chin latches) but the V8 is the latest model and claims to have sorted most of it's predecessors failings.
So does anyone have one and if so how are you getting on with it?

Hey Marlin.45 !! i bought a boxer when they first came out and loved it till i was out in the...
RAIN !! thats when i realized that, with the visor on the inside, the rain just pores in and strait down the front of yer jacket !! so it only comes out in the summer ( what ever that is ) and yes i did buy it for its looks !!
hope this helps !!

Cheers for that KK.
Roof now 'claim' that with the V model and now the V8 they have rectified the failings of the original model....mmmm Reeeeaaaally?
As you quite rightly note from a design perspective sticking the visor seal in that location is not exactly clever?

I actually have the new Roof V8, and gotta say, it''s a really decent helmet. I have a shoei multitec as well - another flip face - and it compares well in all ways. good ventilation, comfortable, great visibility. Has a snap strap instead of the old-skool kind, which is nice.
The snap shut isn't as user friendly as the multitec, which just has one button, but once you get used to the two snaps on the side, it's fine. I think I also read it's one of the highest-rated flip-front helmets, safety-wise, in Europe.
Haven't worn it in a downpour, nor had it above 200 kph, or for a long road trip, so I can't comment on those qualities yet. But it's the reason my basically brand-new shoei is sitting on a shelf...

Try a Schuberth C3, they don't actually look like a flip front at all but they are. They're marketed as the first ever flip front racing helmet, Michael Schumacher was involved in the development of the helmet, they're also one of the quietest helmets available and they're very very comfy indeed! My Dad got one for the same reason, easy to put on with your glasses and he loves it!

Cheers for that and good to know someone actually has one. As yet I cannot find a UK dealer and Roof are not responding to emails?
Over the weekend I tried a Schubert C3 and it is a nice helmet but at the thick end of £500 it would have to be! Also they don't seem to do the flip in matt black?

I got mine when I was visiting London, from a shop called Urban Rider, in Fulham. They were pretty helpful, even offered to ship one to me - and I live in Canada. Their distributor is Thunderchild, I believe. They should be able to help.
There was another shop just down the road from them, but the guy was a total prick and I refuse to give him any business at all! Here's Urban Rider's # ... 020 7736 3811

Cheers for the heads up on the store in Fulham AT but a decision has now been made.
Roof never returned my mails and although a dealer oop noorf was willing to send a Boxer V8 daarn saaarf to check fit etc. I would have to stump up the return cost if nec. Quite understandable after all? But there is nothing like seeing and checking the merchandise before you buy?
My 2nd choice was the Shoei Multitec and a local dealer to the office stocks a limited selection of colours but and had one in my size. Nicely made helmet and has good reviews, so as they didn't have the colour I wanted so I have ordered online (they could get one in in around a week but would then entail a 20 mile round trip).
Delivery 1-2 days and comes with a smoked visor and cleaning kit for 370GBP. Not the cheapest but no-where near the dearest either
Job done!
