Lightest full-face helmet?

I have developed a problem with the vertebral discs in my neck and both my current helmets, a KBC and a RXT, are causing me problems because of their weight (1700 and 1850 grams respectively, both size XL).

Can anyone recommend a lighter full-face helmet?

I really need to know actual weights rather than perceptions so I can do an objective comparison, but any advice is welcome.

Only Nolan helmets seem to have their weight marked on them and I haven't found any info on weights on any of the manufacturers websites.

The lightest full face I have seen by far is a BMW carbon fibre helmet - if you have the $$'s. In your case it will probably be well worth it.

Webbike World have some handy information on helmets. Shark also make a composite fibre helmet that will save 150g or so compared to normal resin/fibre helmets.

Thanks dfbike for the webbikeworld link. Excellent information that will be very useful. I'll be checking out the beemer helmet among others.

Over the past couple of days I have done a lot of research on lightweight helmets and this morning I went back to one of my local dealers, cash in pocket, to buy a Shark RSR2 Carbon which is advertised as being 1290gm + or - 50gm.

I took along an accurate set of digital scales just to check that the RSR2 Carbon has a weight advantage over the ordinary RSR2 which is a lot cheaper.

To the horror of the sales staff we found that all the Shark helmets are about 300gm heavier than claimed. By contrast the Nolans are just about true to their claimed weights and some of the much cheaper helmets are in fact slightly lighter than claimed and a few are lighter than the Shark RSR2 (which by the way weighs about the same as the Carbon).

I suspect that Shark do not include the weight of the visor and perhaps other fittings!

I also went to the Canberra BMW dealership where I was told the BMW Sportintegral Carbon is unlikely to be imported to Australia because of problems meeting the Australian Standard and its price.

Is seems that none of the helmets available in Australia are significantly lighter than my KBC TC-8. The exception was a size XL M2R (I didnt make a note of the model), but it was too big for me and believe it or not the size L, which did fit, was considerably heavier presumably because of the thicker internal padding.

So I still have a pocket full of $$ and my heavy old helmet which doesnt seen quite so heavy any more.

I have learnt 2 things from this excercise:
1. Don't believe the blurb - always check it out for yourself
2. A smaller size helmet may be heavier than the next size up because it has more padding in the same shell

Light helmets

I have been checking helmets for weight also because of neck problems. I like a full face flip-up. HJC is lighter than any other flip-ups I have found. They have a good guarantee also.

Vega Mach1 seems pretty light. Just got it a few days ago and haven't been able to wear it much.

BMW have stopped making Australian standards helmets, so you can get some really good deals at the moment as the dealers all sell off their stock.
I got a System5 for about $500 in Melbourne, and the Sports model (which I already have) is cheaper, extremely light, very quiet, and has very little lift at high speed, even if you have a scrawny neck like me!
I love the BMW helmets, and the logo is so tiny that you barely notice it (or you can pop it out with a small screwdriver).

I have a Shoei x-eleven and it is one of the most comfortable helmets as far as weight goes that I have tried. I'm not sure of the actual weight, but I guess I could go stick mine on a scale.
