Just received my Tri-ugh magazine. Ugh.
Are any of the publishing team riders? It certainly doesn't read that way. It reads like it was done by people who consider motorcycles to be fashion accessories.
1: We open to a double-page "Paul Smith" advert. My first reaction is, "Who the hell is Paul Smith?" Then I realized he's some sort of "designer." The kind who make clothes for people with bottomless wallets and who've never eaten a cheeseburger for fear of the calories.
2: The Earthly environment in which the black ink on the contents page might not rub off would be the Sahara Desert.
3: Who cares what position Viscount Hoightypants holds regarding assuming the throne? He rides Triumphs - that's fine. But I'd be more interested in the man he pays to get grease under his fingernails, not the man behind the checkbook.
4: Where are the BIKES? What few bikes we do see, other than the Tiger stunta, serve only as props for the heroin-chic models in Paul Smith clothes.
Here's a message for the publishers and Triumph as well: Triumph riders come from all walks of life, and the vast majority of us have only one thing in common: A passion for riding, Triumph motorcycles in particular. Rather than focus on this common thread, Triumph presents to the casual reader that we're all image-obsessed 20-somethings in the upper 10% income bracket who happen to own the current "hot" brand, in this case Triumph. There is NOTHING about this magazine that speaks to any class other than the jet-set who can afford the faux-trashy clothes, Masserattis, high-end watches and stereo speakers advertised within.
This magazine is supposed to be for Triumph owners - aka RATs. Where are the listing of upcoming RAT events? Where are the technical articles to help us care for our bikes? Where are the in-depth model profiles you won't find anywhere else? Where are the interviews with the bike designers and engineers. Where are the reviews of the aftermarket parts?
I can get all this from this website, but those Triumph riders who don't frequent this site and only receive the magazine, we must seem like vain, pretentious upperclass twits. Or that we want to be that way.
What a waste of paper, ink, time and effort.
Rant over.
I'm going for a ride, d@mmit.

Yea, I would have to agree with you. It's basicly a sales catalogue and clothing.
If I wanted to see that, I would have bought a Harley, which I might add would never happen in this life.
I love Triumph motorcycles, but they can keep the magazine.

Tri-ugh Magazine
My hats off to you Xardoz,You said some of the same things I was thinking but,you have a better way with words.
One has to wonder who is running the magazine.People who ride motorcycles or some limp wristed wanna be who would not want to be seen with regular Triumph riders who work for a living.
Anyhow, thats just my opinion. If i've stepped on anyones toes, too bad.....

You guys were prominently feature in Torque. You're day has come and gone. Now all TriuMPH riders are good looking, thin, well coiffed, and sporting the latest in TriuMPH biker fashion. I would go on, but I just broke a nail and have to rush over to the manicurist. L8R my b!tches.

I agree 100%. I was so looking forward to the new magazine. I usually grabbed the Torque mag & read it all the way through in 1 sitting. I flipped through Triumph & couldn't tell what was articles & what was advertisements. Haven't picked it up since. Definitly a HUGE step back.
Bring back Torque!

The second one is no better. I thought it was just me. I'm old, fat and wear scuffed boots and my jeans have a few old grease stains that won't come out. The magazine looks like it was produced by the same company that puts magazines in doctors offices. I'm not sure what some of those ads are selling. The photography is good maybe they could hire some bike people to help with the content. Or send that to doctors offices and make a less glossy version about riding, wrenching, and whats going on at Triumph for Triumph riders.

Just my $.02
Kinda new around here. Jusy sold a Ural Patrol sidecar rig and picked up my '08 America last week. WOW what a bike! Anyway. My riding buddy is a member of the BMW Owners Group and he passes on his monthly BMW Owners Group magazine. WOW! Good infor mation all way round. Tech stuff, history, new models, events, classifieds, etc. Diffinetly not an in house marketing piece. Maybe that's the difference. Their mag is done by the club not the mfg. RAT may not be as big as the BMW group but their mag is something to use as a pretty good guide. Also it costs $40 to be a member, whereas RAT is free. Just my $.02. Now I'm going riding.
