In 2004 my wife and I attended a tour in Greece on Triumphs, with RATs from France, Britian, the US and Canada. Over the 8 days of the tour we established very good friendships with these RATs from all over the world. It was a grand tour with excellent people, beautiful country, challenging roads, and of course Triumphs. There were 2 couples from France, one couple from Canada, 2 British couples, and 2 American couples. We still e-mail each other, and this week we had the pleasure of seeing our friends here at our home. Patrick and Martine, who live in the east of France had 2 sons who studied in the states, so for the last 8 years, have been coming to the states for vacation. They came to see us in Northwest FL, and we had a very good reunion. My, and my wife's French is very very bad and their english is pretty good, if you concentrate hard on what they are saying. For 3 days we talked, ate, drank, went to the beach, and rode both of my Triumphs. I have an 05 Speed Triple and an 03 Bonneville America. Patrick enjoyed both of my bikes and I managed to find us some good roads with some twists and no traffic. It was very good. We hope to see France very soon, and see our other French RATs and Patrick and Martine again.
Our plan was to see our Canadian RAT friends as well, but unfortunately a family medical situation has postponed that joureny.
Even though our RAT friends are from different countries, and cultures, having Triumph in common is a very strong bond. One us said, " We are different counrties, but like mind." This is very true. The people we met on our 8 day tour of Greece will be our friends for life. This is what the adventure of motorcycling is all about. This is why I ride TRIUMPH. This is why I am a RAT. IF you have the chance to see some part of our world on a TRIUMPH with a bunch of RATs, TAKE the chance! You will be rewarded. :-D
