"Raiding the Border."
On Sunday just passed it was my first RAT-RAID as pack leader. I was fairly nervous as I know from past experience, you have a fairly diverse crowd to please, with some people 2-up on speedmasters and others one-up on R1`S and a wide range of riding ability. The ride went very well, with a turnout of 35 bikes, 27 of which were Trumpies. I led the ride, with Greg, from the dealership, riding a bonnie demonstrator, being the "rear gunner" and sweeping up the stragglers.
A great quote from Greg was "My God, I`ve never ridden a bike so slowly. In fact, I don`t think I`ve ever driven a car that slowly!" The front end of the pack was moving a lot more quickly with an MV Agusta Brutale 750, dicing with me on the Saint, through the twisties. We had a 400km run through SE Queensland and Northern NSW on some of the most demanding, but fun, roads and one of the more experienced riders, on a restored Laverda 1200 came a cropper! A 70kph low side is no joke wearing Levi`s and no gloves. He bravely limped the Laverda home, with no headlight or front brake and blood dripping from his hands and knees. Respect to him and also some of the other `Champs` like the guy, 2-up, on the Rocket 3, who managed to overtake the Kawasaki Ninja on the twisties! Well ridden! Everyone seeemed to have a good time and I can`t wait till the next one...
I`ve now uploaded the pics.
