Cold Weather Gloves?

I was going to post this in the Gloves section, but there's only 6 threads in there and not much information or responses... so I'll try in general first.

Now that fall is upon us here in the Great Lakes, I think I need to get a second set of some kit. With the cold weather showing up, adding the liner to my jacket, a baklava style neck protector, some thick socks to my riding boots and some long underwear to my riding pants seems to do just fine -- however my hands are FREEZING.

I don't have much room to complain, as they're vented track gauntlet gloves, but I'm not quite sure what I need at this point. When I look around, and see Waterproof/Windproof, is that what I am looking for as far as cold weather riding? I don't necessarily need Waterproof as I don't plan on riding around in the freezing rain this late in the season, but I definitely need something windproof.

My question is does anyone have any suggestions on a gauntlet, track style glove that performs well to keep the appendages warm on very chilly days? The bulk of what I'm seeing look like Eskimo mitts and don't look like they'd afford much dexterity for clutch/brake manipulation. I ride a Speed Triple if that makes any difference.

Any help anyone could afford would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

My suggestion is - get heated grips.

I tried on a pair of Castle gloves yesterday like these: http://www.castlesales.com/html/prod...&start_indx=13. They felt warm and offered plenty of dexterity. The finger tips were a nice grippy material that felt like would prevent slipping on the throttle or brake/clutch levers. But, they are $50 and I couldn't bring myself to spend that much.

Yesterday was in the upper 30s and I wore a pair of insulated leather work gloves from the local hardware store. They were perfectly warm, but not long enough and they let the cold air get to my wrists.

I may be forced to spend the money, but I'll keep looking first.

I bought these .

They are well made . My little finger on my right hand feels some cold but I think as my left doesn't that it's me not the gloves . I liked them enough to buy a Firstgear one peice cold weather suit .

Winter gloves

I got these from Cortech. They felt a little bulky but I think they will break in nice. They are longer so they will cover the sleeve of my jacket. They also feel study and have adequate protection.

My only experience is down to about 10 deg C (50 deg F) however I use cotton undergloves - the type sold for housework.

They wick the moisture away from the skin so cutting down on the chill factor. Adding layers can be just as effective as a solid barrier is against cold.

This way I still retain the feel through the glove.

I won't be riding in 30 deg weather either. It's in the 50s when I leave in the morning.

I've got a pair of Olympia Gel gloves. They've got nice gauntlets with velcro, but my fingers were getting cold in mid 50s temp. I picked up a pair of glove liners from the local sporting goods/hunting supply store. My fingers are much happier now. I don't recommend cotton liners. Shop for polyester or silk..

Gonna have to try a silk liner soon , as it's getting damn cold some mornings here in mid Michigan already .

Just received a pair of these too as a second choice. I wanted a pair of Held Ice Breakers but they stopped making them and according to Held USA they don't know what will be replacing them.

I agree the Scarabs are bulky and I hoping they break in. First ride w/ them was this morning and it was about 40F in places. By the time I arrived at work (25 mi) the tips of my fingers were a little numb. The jury is still out.
