Transporting a gallon of milk!

So my wife says we need a gallon of milk. Great opportunity to take out the new Bonnie. I don't have saddle bags and I don't like the looks of them either. Mayby I haven't found the right bags? What are my options? My brother in-law from London says to get a Timbuk2 messenger bag or backpack. They let you custom pick the colors. How is it riding with a pack? Are you better off bungi cording a pack to your seat? How would the boys back in the day have transported their stuff? (Don't tell me they don't have gallons of milk over in England)

Is that US gallon or Imperial Gallon?:

I use a ruck sack for small transportable, as I haven't come up with a great hardbag solution for my Daytona yet.

I use a back pack almost every day carrying books to/from school. No worries, just make sure it's waterproof!

A back pack is probably the way to go. My buddy told me to strap a milk crate to the back seat. I smacked him. The Timbuk2 site is pretty cool for packs. You can custom design different colored panels on the pack to match your bike. They have pretty cool reflective colors as well. Thanks for your input.

Careful of milk.
I never knew it before I renovated a milk plant garage, but milk is extremely corrosive to steel. The steel framing members below the floor slab were rusted worse than bridge beams exposed to winter salt.

I did not know that. Makes sense though. Reminds me of when I would find one of my kids old sippy cups with milk still in it. Not a pretty sight!

I use a backpack, but instead of wearing it I strap it to my seat with a cargo net this this one: http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Powerspor.../dp/B000HX55ZA. The backpack's shoulder straps are tied together so they don't fall down into the chain/spokes.

Just brought home a heavy box of laundry detergent using the net, it worked fine.

My Thunderbird has a rear rack with expandable tailbag that can easily swallow up a gallon.
Very nice setup.

When I use the other rides, I've been known to tuck in my shirt and stuff bottles in the shirt.
Cold milk would be a new adventure though.
