Verizon GPS phone
I use the GPS on my Verizon cell phone.
Waterproof, shockproof, bluetooth. So far so good.
Clips right onto Formotion clipit mount.

for the price perfect
I use the Garmin Nuv 200 with a RAM mount. Is it waterproof, (yes with a zip lock bag over it). No learning curve at all. Comes loaded with all the maps for lower 48 and Canada. And best of all it is $150 wit a car mount and cigarette lighter power cord. For the price PERFECT.

I use a Mio DigiWalker 410. They're quite inexpensive on ebay right now, sub $150. I've tried a few mounts and ended up liking the techmount fairing mount the best.

For anyone interested in mounting an auxiliary power socket, I posted a step by step walkthrough on the daytona deliberations page.

tomtom/iPhone combo.
just purchased a tomtom 920t. Installed a a powerlet cigarette adapter too. That coupled with my iPhone on a ram mount. The combo makes for hands free nav and calling. Just plug headphones into tomtom which is linked via Bluetooth to the cell phone. Nav voice prompts are heard and when a call comes in it links throughs same headphones. The tomtom has the best maps of all the gps I have seen. And best of all, all tomtom users can correct and add poi and share info through tomtom home with other tomtom users. Also tomtom can download poi or trips directly from google maps! Good luck and don't buy at retail store. Over 50% cheaper on line. I got mine on craigslist.

I guess it just depends on what you want. I'd never consider a GPS that is not waterproof for motorcycle use. Even though I don't like to ride in the rain. If you are doing any long distance rides, you WILL get caught in the rain in a strange area, and you'll need that waterproof GPS then.

I received a free gps with my mobile phone package. A Mio Digiwalker. Doesn't have the bells & whistles such as text to voice or silly games but it is a good little unit with voice commands and easy to read screen.
I bought a bike mount from ebay at about $5.00 AUD and I get about 3 hours of battery life. I switch it off when I don't need it such as long highways. Yesterday I needed it with the threat of rain so I stuck in a plastic snaplock bag. I then realised it still clipped onto the mount while sealed in the bag. It didn't reduce the screen clarity or sat signal. I guess I will get an adaptor to charge it while riding at some stage but I haven't found the need yet.
