I've been thinking of this as an option to the Zumo because it's rumored to lock onto satellites faster and with me living in the sticks that would probably be a plus. Also, the included bluetooth headset is a nice touch.

Like you, I'd sure like to hear from some users...

Tom Tom Rider 2
Hi, just got one and fitted it (easily..) to my 955 tiger. The headset is a nice touch and easy to sort out but not all that nessesary IMHO as the screen does such a good job, unless you feel it's important to take calls on the move (I don't..) I only powered it via the power socket but will get it hard wired up on the next service. I also got the car kit and that fits well too. It seems like a decent bit of kit, though I can't compare it directly to the Garmin which I was also tempted with but the price, being a tight scotsman, put me off.

Ah... You made me go Google. It's one of those electric map thingies with no pages to blow around in the wind!

One of these days I might go GPS. Hey, that "economy boosting" check from George might cover one? Hmmm

10 Days in France
I've planned a 10 day trip to France for the end of April and currently looking for a GPS that covers UK and France out of the box.

I've pretty much narrowed down the options to The Rider V2 and the Garmin Zumo 550 but really can't decide either way.

I'm waiting to see if anyone does an Easter Sale and probably going to be swayed by the best price between the 2. I've searched the net for a comparison between the two current models but got nowhere.

So if anyone has any feelings about either I would be keen to hear.

I like the comment about living in the sticks of Vermont. On Saturday I'll be riding across a little indian reservation west of town that's bigger than Connecticut. That's out in the sticks! As for locking on to satellites, the Zumo never takes more than about 45 seconds to get up and running - GPS working, XM radio playing, and linked to my Treo and Bluetooth headset. If that's too long, you need less caffeine!
I only have minimal experience with TomTom, I rode with some guys who used them for a ride across the Navajo Reservation in NE Arizona. They didn't have a lot of luck on some of the more obscure roads compared to the Garmin folks. I'm out in our western sticks a lot, and will admit that the Zumo can get confused as well. The Zumo cost a bunch, especially with the XM antenna, but it has been flawless under all conditions, is really easy to use, and using the British English option, speaks with an accent appropriate to a proper English motorbike! That's why my Tiger is Maggie! I bought it through Amazon after lots of shopping, they offered a package deal with the Zumo 550 and XM antenna together.

Thanks for your post TB. I was favouring the Zumo if only because it's compatible with Google Earth and saves your trip details. I'm often stumbling across excellent roads that I struggle to find at a later date.

I know some people like the fact that the Tomtom comes with a blue tooth earpiece but I'd probably prefer to keep my hard wired noise cancelling earphones for stereo sound anyway.

Plus the idea of answering the phone on the move is of no interest either. I take the bike out to avoid those distractions lol.

Is the Zumo 450 also compatible with Google Earth? How about Google Maps? I have been struggling with which one to get. Zumo 550, 450 or Tom Tom Rider 2.
I would like to lay out a route on my computer then download it to the GPS and can't seem to find any information on that. Any help would be very much appreciated. (Although an English accent for my bike would be cool)

The accent is really all that matters.......
I can't blame an English lass for getting lost on an American Indian reservation. Maybe my relationship with Maggie is too close.........
