Disk lock alarms?

Anyone use them? I'm planning a ride to the MotoGP race at Laguna Seca in July. Since i'll be spending several nights in motel rooms, id like something that will keep my bike MINE. Any experience or knowledge about these things would be appreciated.

Xena is probably the best out there - they produce an ear piercing alarm. However - with the frequency of these alarms going off I wonder how much is actually paid attention to them. I use one when I park my bike downtown etc. It gives me a piece of mind, but I am not sure it would matter in the 7 seconds it takes to put a bike in a van. Since Laguna is a major event I would suspect crooks would be on the prowl. I would buy an On-Guard chain ( I believe they are rated up to a MK-40 torpedo hit) and find your nearest lamp post and run it through the frame. That is probably the most burglar proof you can get especially is you can keep the chain off the deck.

But back on topic - I love the Xenas for a disc lock, you won't be disappointed with the sound and use.

I use the Xena and am pleased with it. MAKE SURE you develop some sort of routine to remind yourself the disc lock is there, alarm or no alarm! I always wrap my Bandana around the ignition switch when I stopm for a coffee etc. as a reminder.

If I was leaving it overnight in a strange place I would use the Xena and then a secondary lock to secure the bike to something.

Taking it a step further (third tier of defensive- technically called "target hardening") pull the main fuse and take it into the hotel with you. If they defeat your first two security measures rest assured they won't be riding away on your bike.

Good point Grey - didn't yours come with a long orange bundle type cord that you fit around the throttle? Mine came with it to prevent you from jamming the disc against your fork tubes.

I had ordered a Gorilla 2-way pager alarm and hadn't yet installed it. I LOVE the fact that it would let me know why/when/how it alarms AS IT ALARMS. However...friends of mine told me that it WILL alarm for simple reasons (as in someone touching it). They also informed me that I'd be running to my bike to find nothing there but my bike (as the alarm will have scared off violator). So I heeded their words and got a XENA XR1. LOVE IT!!! So small it EASILY fits underseat on my Streety (along with my bicycle cable lock I use to lock my helmet and jacket to bike on hot days). Doesn't drain battery (big problem with wired in alarms) and so easy to use. LOVE IT!! Is a disc lock AND alarm (senses motion). $75 usd. I just wish it also had a LED light to show violators BEFORE they start fiddling! I just have learn to trust this thing and know that I DONT need to know about EVERY time a person just touches my bike.
