To be honest money is not the biggest factor for me on this one. I'm planning on going on a magor ride in a year and a half (Hall brothers part duex; Part one is here http://bernie.jshall.net - I think it's still up...) and I really want something that's solid and reliable I've heard mixed about most of the ones on the list and thought I'd try to get an an overall feeling form the people here, as i know from being here so long we're all about riding, and most are long hauler's so...

I'm familiar with Garmin's setup as I bought my wife a Nuvi 350 for in the car. Seems ok, but I do agree some of the simple functions seem to be non-intuitive in their locations. (If only I were a programer I'd design my own...)

I'm curious, why would you say this one's better than the Zumo 550?

Well I use my laptop and Microsoft street and trips gps edition. I really like it plus I can put as many mp3 songs on it as I want. Sure its tricky to balance but I found that some velcro across the tank and on the bottom of my laptop works well unless I really corner hard.

Ok I am just joking..... I am looking at buying the zumo 550. I like the usability and the ease of use for gloved hands.

I can't speak from personal experience, but I haven't seen a thread that reccomended anything but the Zumo if money wasn't a factor. Left hand buttons, waterproof, shockproof, mp3 player, entering destinations with gloves on - it's all there.

Two years ago I borrowed a friends Garmin Quest for a trip up to Jasper through the Canadian Rockies and back down through Britsh Columbia. It worked great except there were a couple of times it recommended what I would classify as a fire road as the shortest distance, NOT. Also it wasn't waterproof so I had to put a plastic baggie over it a couple times. I just got a Zumo 450 for all the reasons already mentioned. I'd have gotten the 550 except I prefer Sirius to XM (although it's now in front of the FTC as to whether or not they get to merge) and I already have a Sirius receiver which worked great on my trip to Canada. I don't think I'd need traffic since I try to stick to the open spaces, but weather might be nice.

One of the greatest rides in Western Canada. I live about 3 hours from Jasper and the ride from Jasper down to Banff through the kootneys is a sport/touring riders dream. Another good trip is from Jasper to Valemount down to Kamloops into the Okanagan and Kelowna south to Pentiction, over the boarder in Osoyoos then head where ever you like in the US. BC is amazing for bike trips.
