patches on leather, what/how do you stick them down.

Hey there, i just bought a new leather jacket and wondering how most of you stick or attach your club/other patches on to your jackets. Silly question I know, nothing on TV so I'm here asking.
I used to glue my patches down not wanting to pierce my leathers but over the years they all fallen off, they weren't cheap either. Just curious as I found a whole stash of patches in my tool shed, cool ol'school and patches given to me by friends in the states.

Cheers
Sid

Just go to a boot/shoe repair shop. They have heavy duty sewing machines and generally don't charge very much, then the patches are on pretty much for good.

Yeah your best option is really sewing them on. Anything you used to stick them on that was strong enough would mar the leather anyway...

If you're a DIY type what you need is a Sewing Awl (http://google.com/products?q=sewing+...earch+Products)
Cheap and effective.

Sewing is best. I recommend going to a leather jacket shop or a bike event with lots of Harley vendors. There's always a patch booth and they bring their sewing machines to sew them on the spot. You can also use a contact adhesive like leather weld or tanners bond if you don't want to sew them or you want to apply them to a area that can't be reached with a sewing machine like the sleeve. You have to clean the area with acetone first, (use a rag). Then rough the area up with steel wool and/or a wire brush, then clean up the spot with more acetone. This will destroy the leather finish and rough it up to allow the adhesive to penetrate. Trace the patch with a pencil and make sure the acetone and scrubbing don't go outside the outline. When the acetone has evaporated, apply the adhesive to the patch and on the area traced. Best to use a small paint brush. Let it dry, then stick them together. Place a heavy object on the patch and let it cure for 24 hours, (a couple blocks of wood on the patch and the other side of the area sandwiched in a vice work well too). The patch should now be permanent for at least a few years. If you screw up the gluing, go have it sewed. Good luck.

go to The Hardware Store

Hi Guy
I found some "craft" glue that sticks fabric/leather/metal. Works real good and I didn't do any prep to the leather. You just paint it on both surfaces, wait till the glue goes tacky and press together. EASY and permanent (so faranyway!, 1 year and no loosening)
