Check with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation in your area for riding classes.
Ah hell... now I see that says "riding glasses"! I need some reading glasses!

I hve some ideas not for which glasses to get, but things i've found over time and after trying dozens. Lens color and type and all that i'll leave to others. But here are some things i found that make for good riding glasses. First, never buy the type that have those little pads that rest on your nose. get the type where there is a molded ridge there instead as in the pic below. the other type allow a lot of air to come thru that area and the turbulence gets in your eyes. Also look for large lenses that are somehwhat wrap around. And as the pic below, wide sides also help a lot to keep them from flying off when you turn your head to change lanes at high speed. Of course thats not an issue with a face shield, but mif you ride w/o one it is, and the L.A. freeways are littered with a lot of my glasses as proof !
Anyways, after trying a ton of glasses i came to find the best ones for stability at speed (not flying off or moving around a lot) and for least amount of wind in they eyes were pairs that looked pretty much just like the ones below. So the 4 things i found help a lot are the molded in nose rest, large lenses, wrap around, (not necessarily a lot, just more than most) and wide sides. I spent a lot on glasses in the last couple years and out of all of them only 2 pairs worked flawlessly, and they both looked pretty much just like below. (cept for that stupid design on the side which many now have...the basdages !)
EDIT: by the way, i just saw those ones you are considering and i gotta mention this. maybe it's just me and they work for most people. I can't say having only tried one pair. But i have a pair like that and i swear they are the worse i have had as far as wind in the eyes ! That foam around them not only didn't keep the wind out but apparently made it worse than any other non-bike specific glasses i've tried. I'm not kiddin ! again, maybe it was a fluke but they were so bad i used them for one short ride and $hit-canned them.

I know someone up this thread said he did not have problems with polarized lenses, but I sure did. The experience was somwhere between an acid trip and staring at an Andy Warhol poster.

Faceshields are photoelastic and almost always will give weird color effects if you wear polarized lenses. I always make sure my shades are only photo gray with no polarizing.
The effect won't occur if the faceshield was molded to the exact shape of the helmet. But if there is any bending, like to snap the shield on, the stress makes the plastic polarized. Thats the photoelastic effect. Engineers made models out of photoelastic plastic back in the old days before computer stress analysis and could calculate stress from the colors. You can repeat the experiment while you ride if you aren't careful to avoid the combination of a stressed faceshield and polarized sunglasses.

I had a look at the Wiley X range at the Melbourne Motorcycle Expo but didn't have anything to compare with price wise. I've only ever worn standard sunglasses which are crap for riding. Bugs, dust and grit get around the lens and they're not impact resistant.
With the Aussie dollar chasing the US dollar I can now afford to bump up my budget to USD$150
Thanks in advance.

Wiley X glasses are top notch! Thats what most use while in the desert... and they can stop shrapnel so they can handle a bug no problem. I have 4 different pairs of WX, all with different purposes. You can get them polarized as well, and some have a foam backing to block dust/wind from getting in your eyes. If you want something that will stand-up to just about anything that will be thrown at you, get them. I am sure there are other brands out there for less that are good to, but I don't like playing around with my vision.

I have a pair of Pan Optix riding glasses, and they're amazing. I've worn them both under a full face helmet and with a skid lid. They're well padded so if you ride open face, your eyes are fine.
They'll adjust day for night, I've worn them while riding at noon and at midnight, and never had a visibility problem.
They're not cheap, and I bought them over the counter at a Harley store (because that's the only place they were in stock), but I can't rave enough about 'em.

That was me. Funny thing is that last weekend when glancing in my mirror the sky looked green. First color distortion that I ever noticed with these shades, and I've put over 20K miles on this bike with these glasses. Color distortions are okay (I'm kinda burnt on blue skies anyway) but if the road starts melting I'm losing the shades.

Polarized sunglasses do not work with Shoei shields. I seriously doubt they will work with any modern shield.
