Back protectors?

My leathers have a CE foam pad on the back, and maybe I'm getting paranoid, but I think I'll be buying some back armor soon. Anybody have any particular likes or dislikes?

One of the local racers swears by his Kobe, and Alpinestars has this one that looks pretty good:

You can go for a full back protector like you've mentioned. In the UK , Knox make good kit. Or you can buy CE approved replacement inserts which are made by Know and Dainese and fit in the pocket that the OE foam uses. More comfy and less intrusive. One thing is for sure, the OE foam is useless. A uk magazine did an impact test and the OE foam was less protective than a cheese sandwich ! And that's not a joke.

The T-Pro Forcefield is available in the States as the Joe Rocket Speedmaster back protector. $125 from New Enough. I have one and love it.

I'm lookin' at under-the-jacket types for track days - most organizations that require 'em don't accept the insert-type.

I have the CE back protector that slips into Joe Rocket jackets, which is the T-Pro protector, and I have to say I'm really impressed with it. It's very comfortable and not obtrusive, but seems like it would do a good job if called on.

I have one of the Alpine*. This one to be exact.

http://newenough.com/armor/back_prot...protector.html

I've been using it on the track, it doesn't seem to be as uncomfortable under the leathers as the other that I tried.

I used a Bohn back protector for several years while club racing. It also has a chest plate. Served me well during several get offs and did not feel constricting under full leathers. I always had the longer model, but they do make a short version.

Good ideas. I guess I'll spring for some protection.

A backprotector protects you from spinal injuries due to impact, but I've read that only a small percentage of spinal injuries or due to impact. Most are due to twisting forces.

All the same I wear a CE back protector just about every time I ride - the extra bulk/lack of ventilation doesn't bother me much, and I figure it can't hurt.

To paraphrase David Hough (http://www.amazon.com/Proficient-Motorcycling-Ultimate-Guide-Riding/dp/1889540536/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-3272281-2714800?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188322669&sr=8-1):
If you crash, you'll crash in whatever you were wearing when you got on the bike.

A lot of my friends make a lot of safety compromises for convenience, but I tend to be a bit more conservative (that said I couldn't find my knee armor when I left this morning so I'm doing without today - knock on wood).
