Any recommendations for a simple pair of boots?
Just need very plain black boots for summer riding.
They can be either all leather or a mix of leather and mesh.
NO GORE-TEX.

Thanks guys.

One of my favorite riding boots. Comfortable and made for motorcycles. I had a crash last month where I totaled my bike and was wearing the Bates boots which saved my feet and ankles from harm.
Find your local army/navy surplus store. Full leather uppers, though, coz I'm pretty sure "jungle" boots won't do a thing to protect your ankles in case of high-speed dismount...
I use standard Dingo style boots. With thin summer socks they slip on & off easily and are not too hot in the summer. Don't buy too cheap; get a nice pair. Likely decent foot protection; not sure about ankle.
Yeah, my last pair has lasted two seasons and really did a great job of keeping my feet dry. They lasted and worked much better than the gortex Bates GX-8 boots I was using before. Zipper is holding up too, which is what kept breaking on the GS-8s.
I'm probably going to order a new pair of Escalantes for next year. They are decent boots, but not lifetime boots. They are pretty much disposable after a season or two if you're an all-weather rider who puts on some miles.
True, the Bates Escalante definitely won't last more than a few seasons of hard riding. The leather is too soft I believe. I had about 10K miles on the boots before the accident and they are still wearable probably for one more season. For around $100 they are great though. Probably being discontinues soon.
Bought these at the end of summer. Waterproof. Comfortable. Look great off the bike. Good ankle protection. Much more substantial than they seem in the pictures.

I will second that....well sorta. I have their X-blend boots in brown and love them. Waterproof so they can be warm on summer rides. But not as long as you are moving. Plus as mentioned they offer a ton more protection than they look like they do. I would buy them again!
Hi. You could also check out Gasolina boots. They hand make boots in Mexico to your measurements. There are some great traditional designs. The shorty boot (which you can also order in perforated leather) looks a great summer boot.
