I just bought a vid cam mount off e-bay. It mounts to the filler cap & doesn't touch the tank. I love so much better than the suction cup style, but there's a touch of vibration due to it being so solid.

I was thinking of putting some thin foam on it to cut down the vibrations- anyone had this delimna? What did you use?

BTW, the mount was $50 and is adjustable. Got it from some dude in Canada (RRBARNA, I think) Anywho, the fit and finish is amazing, and it bolts onto a bunch of different makes and models.

If you are talking about the SW-Motech with RAM mount parts, I have the same thing, and yes, it does disappointingly vibrate, and I have been trying various foam/rubber parts to help. Nothing to my satisfaction yet.

I haven't used a real mount yet on the bike, but have had good luck with one stuffed in a tank bag. I know my Sony camcorder has an internal shock adsorption system, maybe a cam with that will help.

I've been looking at different cam corder and mount combinations and have pretty well settled on a Techmount fitted to the stem nut. Havn't settled on a cam corder yet as I don't know what's best for bikes...tape, mini DVD, HDD etc. More research requirrrred.
Vibration... never thut of that. Any comment on preferred make/ model/type of cam corders for this application?

From what I've heard Mini-DVD or DVD type do not due well on motorcycles (the whole gyro effect causes bad thing to happen). I personally run an older Sony Super 8mm camera with the "steady cam" system and a screw on wide angle lense, but its just what I had all ready. The digi stuff is nice since its smaller, easier to import onto a computer for editing, will stay out of your way more, aswell as draw less attention to the fact you are ripping back roads while taping. I don't know if you've checked out these (http://www.sportbikecam.com/) I was looking at going with there set-up, or a lipstick type camera with a digi recording unit under the seat on my SV650 before I started using the Scrambler as my main street bike.

My mount is not the RAM mount. It is shaped like a "U" almost......hooking into the filler bolts. I think I have eliminated the buzziness by simply installing male and female velcro under the cam.

BTW, I am using Mini-DV not Mini-DVD. I had Mini-DVD, and it sucked....ALOT. The gyro commment is correct. The vibrations on the bike cause the DVD's to skip, thereby causing corruption of the media. Mini-DV is (from what I've researched) one of the best (and still cheapest) ways to record on a bike.

I do have Image Stability on mine, and it helps. But I ride a honkin three cylander with crazy amounts of torque, so I suppose the vibrations will never TOTALLY go away, but they are more than acceptable for this application.

HTH,
Ski

P.S. I will try and post up a vid sometime soon for anyone interested.

This was shot with a 2003 vintage Sony Super 8mm camera, in a tankbag with the wide angle lense and night vision on. We had it on a SV650, so I'd guess about the same amount of vibes. I was in a rush when I uploaded it so its a really low quality, and at about 17 seconds in you'll see a cat blur by the front of the bike.
