I thought about calling this thread "the wrong clutch cable," but that wouldn't have been quite as informative.

Apparently I didn't look up the serial number on my bike properly when I ordered this cable. My bike's clutch cable is straight, but this one has a 90 degree bend, as you can see in the picture:
