If it is the norm to have a mixture, which tread type should I go for, if I start replacing nuts & bolts.

Hi, all,
If you read my latest posts in the BHO you'll see why I'm asking. If anyone has, or knows, of a NOS rear fender for a 1970 Tiger 650, please let me know. I'd like to replace factory with factory if it's at all possible. I've still got to deal with the "offending party's" insurance, but that "SHOULD" be no problem. We'll see!

Thanks in advance: Jim

GDay All,

I've been perusing my parts manual (1966 US Models) and I keep coming across references to bolt sizes such as:

screw (21/32 in. U.H.)
bolt (2 1/2 in. U.H.)

Can anyone tell me what the U.H. means?

Is this a reference to the thread type or ... ?

Also, another reference that has me stumped is:

Stud (2 1/2 in. O.A.)

Could the O.A. mean overall length?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Below is a portion from my intro thread.

My other hobby is machining. I retired from the Coast Guard in 2005. I started looking for something to keep me busy so I started getting more into my machining hobby. I made a few carb parts for my bike and showed them off at one of the Harley forums I'm a member of. One of the members asked if I could make a idle screw for his bike, which I did. Then someone else asked for one for his bike, but for a S&S carb (I'd done Keihin butterfly idle screws up to that time). So I made an idle screw for the S&S. Between my Harley forums and Ebay, my hobby escalated with my getting orders from folks all over the world (including Holland, England, Spain, Italy, Norway, Finland, etc) and the U.S. You can see some of the parts I've made at http://s301.photobucket.com/albums/n...des/?start=all . Some of the parts I regularly make, others were prototypes that didn't necessarily work out.

Recently I was in Canada and met a fellow that owns a bike shop in Quebec. We were talking and I told him what I did and he became interested. Turns out his shop specializes in Triumph's, BSA's and Norton's. He asked if I could make similar parts for those bikes. I told him I'd have to check out the carb (he's sending me an Amal carb) screws to see what they were about. Now I understand that the screws on these carbs aren't SAE, nor metric (at least not as commonly known). So I'm trying to learn about these carbs. I'm trying to find out the thread sizes of the idle screws and other fasterners commonly used on these carbs. I'm also wanting to find out what kind of Amal (etc) carbs are used on Triumph's, BSA's and Norton's.

Thanks!
