TuneECU "Unknown map type" error on read

I am trying to download the existing map in my 03 Sprint ST before I go about trying with new maps. TuneECU seems to work fine for connecting to the bike and reading various sensor values but it errors out when I attempt to read the map out with the message "Unknown map type". This seems to have been discussed here a few years ago with no real indication if the problem was resolved.

The following information was read by TuneECU 2.2 if it helps:

ECU Type : 7E01-03
Software Checksum : C185
Serial 2051083616
Map : 10114 (10114)
Checksum / P : 1D4 / 1

As far as I know the previous owners never had it remapped so this should be an official Triumph mapping. The VIN is 162017.

What type of cable are you using? The most common issue for TuneECU trouble is a non compatible cable.

The first cable I tried to use allowed me to connect to the bike without issue and even read the stock map, but I was unable to download a new tune. I would not at all be surprised if you have a cable that allows you to connect but will not allow you to read or download new tunes. I even had another cable that appeared to have the proper chip set and everything, still wouldnt work.

Do yourself a favor and stop messing with it until you buy a Lonelec cable which is the only one so far guaranteed to work.

This will happen if you try to read certain obsolete maps from your ECU.

To use maps in TuneECU the base map must be in the file TuneLibrary.dll that is downloaded with TuneECU. Certain old obsolete maps were not available to Alain so he was never able to add them to the program. In that situation you will receive a message "Unknown Map Type" as you described. The only solution is to load a newer map but there is no way to save the old map as backup.

Hi, What Champ87 said is true had the same problem with my 02 sprint. I have had no problems downloading new tunes from the tune ecu web site. So give it a go and enjoy yourself especially if you are needing an of road tune. If a new tune will not load it will be the cable see first post for solution.
Cheers Paul

Note: version 2.2 is obsolete. The current version is 2.4.
