Tune ECU and cable drivers

2003 Speed Triple,

Well I downloaded TuneECU and I bought a cable. I inadvertently plugged the cable in and let windows find the driver (mistake) so I went to the Tune ECU site and downloaded the 64 bit driver package. Thing is I can't for the life of me work out how to uninstall the windows driver so I can re install the correct ones now.

Any clues? Need a windows 7 guru me thinks

Right click My Computer > Manage
Click on Device Manager
Then under USB-Controller, expand this
Look for USB Serial converter, double click this
New windo will pop up, click on the drivers tab
Click Uninstall

I'm doing this from memory but should be right.

Otherwise do a system restore

Right Click My Computer > Properties
Click System Protection Tab
Click System Restore
Choose your restore point
Then next and OK.

It will roll back and reboot the computer.

Again this is from memory..

Good Luck

I can't believe you would recommend anyone use system restore, don't do that

I'm not sure I'll have to use restore but I've done that before. If you know a good restore point it's no problem. Thing is I have the cable plugged in and I don't see a USB serial converter. The light on the cable is on so it recognizes it.

Yeah, don't do a system restore... no need to. Go into device manager (use Google if I can't find it). Find the USB device, right click on it and uninstall device. Also, Google, uninstall USB device win7

Well that's the thing. In the device manager I can't see the device even when I show hidden devices. I'm trying to insert a screen shot but I'm stuck

System restore. Why not?
Apart from saying not to recomend it why?
When I use to be a computer tech, this was by far easiest and quickest way to help if you were or the user was unsure of what they did and something was broken. Either spend x amount of time trying to fix it, or roll back to a known good.
Especially in the case of the situation the OP is in, spend more time trying to look for the driver or be done with it, and system restores (as long as there's a restore point)

I still stand by it.

Yeah me too M8. I've used it before successfully. It's my works laptop so I'm just a bit cautious. I'll figure it out I'm sure.

Good luck.
Being a work computer you may not have admin rights which may prevent you from doing this.

If so, it could also explain why you can find it installed. Most drivers / apps need to install in to the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE which needs admin rights, some install into HKEY_CURRENT_USER which doesn't need admin rights..
Is it possible it never installed correctly, if you are familiar with the even log it should tell you there.
