Tuneboy Tips for Late Models

Here are a couple of Tuneboy tips for owners of 2010 models, and maybe earlier. If you try to Identify Map in ECU, you will get an error message saying that it "does not recognise the base tune so cannot read from ECU." Update TuneEdit to the latest on the website (3.9.1.6) and it won't help. I sent an email to Tuneboy and they sent me an update link that updated my version to 3.9.4.4, and now there is no error message.

One final tip for the new models, if you have the new Triumph/Arrow exhaust and SAI removed, use the 20210 map, not any of the other ones that look like they may apply. I am a happy camper now.

If you load the latest version of TuneEdit, it is v3.9.4.4 even though it is labled as an earlier version. This is common.

I have a 2009 and I get the "does not recognise the base tune so cannot read from ECU" error. I tried installing the latest TuneEdit and I get the same error. I also tried re-installing everything and following the TuneBoy tutorial exactly and I still get the same error.

I fired off an email to TuneBoy support with screen grabs and the trace file. It's been a week and I haven't heard anything back.

If anyone has any additional tips, please share. I'll let you know what TuneBoy says.

BBDD - Are you able to get the ECU ID and tune information in order to get the tuning key? Or is this after getting the tuning key?

This is after getting the key. TuneBoy works. TuneEdit sees the sensors, it just can't identify the ECU ID.

If you do not care about losing the knowledge on what tune your bike came with originally, then you could just try a recovery upload in TuneEdit and then upload the closest matching tune from TuneBoy website.

You cannot edit the tune you have in the bike anyway. TuneBoy only works one way (computer-to-bike) and with the TuneBoy supplied tunes only. You cannot save a complete tune file via downloading it from the bike to your computer.

Edit. If you already got the key, the key information you read from the ECU should have the tune number also. You could ask Wayne for that particular tune if you want to continue using it.

Wayne responded, asking for another trace file, which I dutifully emailed. He suggested as well, to just loading 20238 on the bike. I have a 2009 Speed Triple, purchased in the US.

My concern is twofold. If the software can't identify the current ECU tune, perhaps there is a bug and I shouldn't download a new tune for fear of screwing up the ECU. Secondly, if I download a new tune, can Truimph service detect it and does it void my warranty?

I realize one of the main reason for purchasing a tuneboy is to download tunes, which I will eventually want to do. Until then, I'd like to use it primarily as a diagnostic tool. I don't think data logging works until I get this ECU identification taken care of.

When you did the "Get ECU Serial Number", you should have got a string looking like this:
ECU Serial number = , ECU Type = , Tune =
What did/does the Tune say in your case?

If you can see a number here, then you have at least a number you could request from your local Triumph dealer to download onto your bike. If you for some reason want to go back, that is.

Your bike, your call. I also have a '09 bike and had to do a recovery download the first time around. After that the normal download in TuneEdit started working OK.
