Smoking

Last night I was stopped waiting for traffic at a stop sign and started to smell burning plastic/electronics/rubber. Look down and there's thick yellow smoke coming up from between my legs. Bike wasn't overheating, everything seemed normal. I immediately shut it off and pulled off to the side of the road. Nothing under the seat looked melted and nothing looked burned up or melted under the fairing that I could see without actually removing the fairing. No fluids on the ground. I did restart the bike briefly to see if it would turn over and it started just fine. I didn't run it long enough for any additional smoke to develop. Sigh. I'm bringing it to the dealership this afternoon but was curious if anyone else had similar issues.

I suggest quitting cold turkey

Have you had the chance to open it up a little bit to see if anything was visually damaged?

At this point I think bringing it to the dealership might be a little overkill. Check your headers and make sure some debris from the road did not get caught and stuck in there first. Also make sure to take off you fairings and have a look-see. Surely that would take less time than taking it to the dealership.

Let us know what happens.

I took it straight to the dealership. A 10 minute visual inspection (with fairing on) did not turn up melted/fried bits that I could find. Nothing caught up in the headers/exhaust/radiator. I just called the dealership, they've had it since wednesday night. "Oh, your bike? Glad you called, we'll actually look at it now that you've called." Thanks guys, glad you're so quick to help out.

Bike is still under warranty and whatever was smoking will undoubtedly need to be replaced and since I had to borrow transportation, my first choice was straight to the dealership.

Voltage regulator started to burn up at 3000 rpm and was pumping out 17 volts. Replaced under warranty for free (although it took them a week to do it). I'm back on the road.
