I'm a proud 675 newbie!

i have been a 955 rider and fan for a few years now and really enjoyed her on the track and at different race venues. it is an awesome piece of machinery. back in august of last year we bought my wife a 675 and it has been all the rage with her. even though in 1 years time all she put on the ticker was 411 miles, this was her soulbike. after discussing the progression of the race track and the limits i was reaching with the 955, she entertained the idea and is allowing me, yes, allowing me, to track the 675 out. up until this past weekend, i only had 2 miles of seat time on this bike. i did a run, with her permission, to the coast and back with some scenic excursions along the way. having put more miles on the clock in 12 hours than she did in 1 year, and over double that in the second 24 hours, especially after getting caught in this tropical storm faye i knew what the rage was all about. it was stable beyond belief and handling was uncomparable in the torrential rain. this bike is awesome to say the least, ans is going to be my new track buddy. only catch is my wife is the only mechanic the bike will allow. cant argue though, if i play by her rules i get to ride the bike, and if i do good enough she might ride me. win win for me! go figure. anyways, for all of the 955 fans, dont worry. the umph is staying and still tracking too. just cause the dog gets older dont mean u put him out to pasture. oh yeah, by the way, scorched yellow is DEFINITELY faster!!!

Welcome to the addiction! You will have a real blast when you get her out on the track.

Advice is to get the suspension dialed in for you with appropriate Sag numbers and get a baseline compression and rebound setting. THe most common mod for us track day riders with regard to suspension is to drop the fork tubes down in the triple trees until the fork caps or the gold tube is flush with the top of the top triple tree.

This will add just a touch of additional trail, making the bike a little more stable under hard braking and will help eliminate a little vagueness in front end feel mid corner.

Have fun out there!

This setting was given to me by a wise sage here at RAT. I do not do any track riding, but on the street it is flawless on any surface.

anodised tube flush with clamp (fork cap above clamp)
Pre-load, 5 lines showing
Rebound, 7 out from full stiff
Compression, 9 out from full stiff
Sag, 33mm (acceptable range 32-38mm)
Rear:
Pre-load, 7.5mm thread showing (1.5 full rotations backed off)
Rebound, 7 out from full stiff
Compression, 12 out from full stiff
Sag, 32mm (acceptable range 28-32mm)

I won't give you any grief on your choice of color, I like 'em all. You DID pick the right bike.

i appreciate all of the input u guys are giving. this is great. we are gonna start with some good base numbers for this upcoming season and track around the southeast to dial the 75 in. i think my wife is looking more forward to this than i am. she loves tinkering on it and so this is right up her alley. she was great on my 955. cant really go by the settings there because everything is so much different. starting this endeavor out with my weight about 215, im anxious to see how much is shaved off of the lap times just because of the bike. maybe by then i will have dropped a few pounds. ha ha! anyways, keep the info coming and wish me luck with this training session! by the way, anyone got any leads on decent race body work other than shark or hotbod? got sharks on the 955, but curious to try the others just to see if there are other competitive options. thanks!
