Sounds Silly, but...
Kill Switch in Run position
Key ON
Bike in Neutral
Kickstand up
If that doesn't solve it, take it in to the dealership...

I know when I got mine there was a recall on the kill switch. Mine was purchased after it was resolved so the dealer never went into full detail about it exactly. Might be the issue? Something to look into.

My guess on this is that it was one of the above and with only 4 posts, phather's too embarrassed to tell us what the problem was...
Don't let it bother you if that was the case... Even happened to Gene Romero (7 time AMA Grand National Champion) this summer at Vintage Days on a new Bonneville... If he can do it, so can any of us. That dude was magic on a bike!

lol seems to happen to me at the gas station...every time. You'd think I would remember eventually but it's just something about the gas station I suppose
But I did see a few minutes ago that the original poster did start this in a new thread under mods and workshop. He gives a little more detail...

I didn't check to see if the kill switch was on when I picked up my bike from the dealership after a service once. Boy did I feel stupid when they pointed out the switch position.

I've gone crazy looking for my key too, only to find it two hours later (already late for work) in the seat lock... LOL

I was @ Road Atlanta for the AMA race, parked around hundred bikes, and the kickstand got me. I felt like an idiot, but it happens to the best of us!!!
