Oil Leak
This is an odd one. I have an oil leak from somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. I have had the stator cover off and on twice now, and checked the drain plug washer with no luck. It makes a mess inside the left lower fairing, but I haven't found it yet. I have some theories, but haven't tried them out. I may replace the chain and sprockts soon, and when I do, I will check the countershaft seal, but I don't think that's where the oil is coming from. I have checked the transmission shift linkage seal, and it is OK. The strangest part of the leak is how intermittent it seams. I am a bit stumped for the time being. Once I figure it out, I will post up about what I found so it may help somebody in the future.

Just curious Will, what type of chain lube are you running. Is it possible that the chain lube is getting hot and flinging off onto the inner fairing or are you pretty sure it's motor oil?
Are you showing any oil consumption over time that might be a result of the leak?
Let us know what you find.
Jeff

It is engine oil for sure. I can watch the level drop over time. Beats me where the leak is from, but it is pretty frustrating, since the bike hasn't used a drop of oil until it started to leak.

When you put the stator cover back on, do you put the copper washer back to the original position? Because the bolt that has the copper washer on it runs through some oil channels. I had the same problem with my clutch side.

Yep, I did. I thought the copper washer had something to do with electrical connectivity, but I guess not. I will check it again. Thanks for the suggestion.

Resurrected thread. After chasing the leak around for what seems like ever, it was apparently a backed out bolt on the sump. It was just enough to let the oil seep out between the bottom of the engine case and the top of the oil pan, but not enough to let it leak if the motor wasn't running and pressurizing the oil. It makes no sense that the sump would be the problem when the oil has to be under pressure to leak, but tigheting it back up seems to have solved the problem for now.

Actually, I didn't. It dumped a lot of oil again. It is extremely random. I guess I am going to have to take off the plastic, dust it down with Desnex (the secret weapon in leak hunts) and ride around until the leak turns up. Crashing sucks. I have been chasing this leak almost a year.
