Valve Tap?

I hear a pretty loud knocking sound that does not sound very good. I have not noticed any loss in performance, but between 3500 and 4000 rpms the knocking sound is the loudest. Anyone else have this problem?
It seems like it started two or three hundred miles ago and I think its getting louder/worse

Take it in to your dealership and have it looked at. There is a fairly well documented issue with the cam chain tensioner on some bikes failing and the noise heard is actually the cam chain slapping up against the inside of the engine case. The noise would be most prominent from the right side of the bike as you are sitting on it.

That may be the issue, or it may be something else. Either way, I would haul it (not ride it) to the dealership and have it checked out.

Thanks that is around the area where the noise seems the loudest. I plan on taking it in tomorrow.
What kind of damage could be done riding it like that?

Catastrophic... Definitely not advisable. Especially if it is not still under warranty... $$$$$$$

So how hard is this to fix?

Right now my bike is sitting at the dealer and they say it is a serious problem and will take a few days to contact triumph. They made me show them the receipt for the oil and filter (which I bought from them) used for the 500 mile service.

A lot of great weather coming up, so this is killing me

Hard telling without knowing what was wrong. Did they give you any indication as to the problem?

Not really. They were just kind of giving me a hard time about doing the 500 mile service myself. I'm not really too happy with this dealer. I guess I will wait till Wednesday to call them back again.

Good luck... Let us know how it turns out...

As long as you can produce a receipt for the oil and filter and the bike didn't loose oil from the drain plug due to the lack of a new crush washer being installed or from the oil filter as a result of it not being tightened correctly, you should be fine.

It will also help if you used the Triumph brand oil and filter for your 500 mile service.

Everything for the oil change was purchased from the dealer.
I guess I will give them another day or two before calling them back again.
