The hail part stung, but I was surprised at how much traction was left, even in the worst of the mess. Racing rain tires may have had something to do with it. Riding in blizzards before probably had something to do with being willing to push a little harder than some of the others, too. I thought it was fun once I got used to it.
Crashing happens on the track, and my bike is now carrying scars I put on it as well as scars from the previous owner's crash history. It doesn't hurt that much if you lowside and don't hit anything or get hit. As long as you can get the bike back together in time for the next race or session, you don't care what it costs. It is a very bad disease!
