Ditto on the advice here

Hi bgs45504,
I am in agreement with all the members advice here.

My last ride of several years was a GSX R600, a bike in my opinion best for an experienced rider, and the D675 is definitely the same type of machine, albeit with a better engine

I am a great follower of the get small first and work your way up philosophy. Get some real skills under your belt first.

I do not own a D675 but am an experienced sports rider as are many posters here.

A 600 class supersports bike is not a beginners bike.

They steer fast and have heaps of grunt and are light and extremely maneuverable which is great in the hands of a skilled pilot but not wise for a novice rider.

The Suzuki SV 650 is a bike that can definitely last you a while, it is light and handles well, and is quite a grunty little motor and no fairings to get buggered up when you drop it.

You can have a hell of a fun time on a machine like the SV 650 without feeling like the machine is in control, it has user friendly power characteristics but is no slouch.

A skilled rider on a mountain road on an SV 650 can surprise a big sports bike with a newbie on it.

I suggest you test ride a few SV 650's they are fun.

Following up what Dave just said, an SV650 or Ninja 650 makes a very good bike to learn on, but don't think you have to stop there. I am racing a GSXR 600 this season, but I am seriously considering a 650 twin to race in a year or two. The label "beginner bike" is not condemnation at all. Just because it is a forgiving bike doesn't mean it isn't a great bike you can really rail on when you get some skill.
