Sorry guys. Linking it this time is the only way I can put a "race spoiler" tag on it. Don't want anyone to read the news before they've had their chance to check it on youtube, etc.

Garry MCCOY

For those of you interested in follwing Garry's progress I found his own website informative.

An impressive start to the season and it is looking good for Triumph already.

Watched the race and whilst the end result was a bit dissapointing it was a very positive start in that these bikes ARE competitive. Any word on what the "minor technical difficulties" were? Fingers crossed for a great result at Phillip Island. There will be extra motivation (and pressure) for the Aussies to do well. Good on Clementi too for finishing well.

Other Motorcycle: '05 Tiger 955i very soon!
When did Triumph last enter an official race team; 1973, 1974? Anyhow, I saw their works Formula 750 team in action in 1972.

After 6 laps yesterday they had 3 riders in the top 15 which was remarkable. It's a shame they couldn't produce a better final result, but they showed great promise. Heck, we wouldn't want them to start off their first season too strongly would we?

According to the Triumph-sc website, Garry's bike started to lose power. The thought is that it may have run too hot when slipstreaming the bikes ahead of him. I can't help but feel that the D675's will suffer a bit on the long start/finish straight at Phillip Island. But, thinking aloud, what if it rains and they can finish on the podium? Whatever, I think there's lots to look forward to this season, but some of the opposition is formidable so it's bound to be a bit of a struggle for the Triumph riders.

If you count the Triumph Valmoto effort, then the last factory Triumph racing team was in BSS in 2004 and 2005 if I remember right.

Hey, look how long it tookl Suzuki to get competitive in MotoGP and AMA. Now they dominate AMA and are VERY competitive in WSB and MotoGP. As long as there is not a string of "DNF"'s for the bikes, it's a good start!

You've got to start somewhere. Racing is not easy or cheap-even for a factory (ask HRC).

With so many Jap bikes on the grids throughout the world there are loads of development parts out there. With Triumph all those items (like bigger radiators ) will have to be developed from scratch. Which can take time.

They have showed a promising start and I am sure they will get the results they deserve. They certainly got plenty of mentions on the TV.

Speed Channel preempted the race yesterday to show an open wheel racing press conference, so I was only able to tape the beginning of the race. At one point in the race, Triumph had three bikes in the top twelve (for a couple of laps, anyway). While I know that we didn't get a top ten finsih, I think we are still in the mix with a very competitive bike and we have some very good riders on Triumphs. Now if we can only keep the Hondas and Yamahas from piling up the field, Triumph may get some podiums. Can't wait to see what changes the race program brings to the retail world. Can a 1050 Daytona WSB bike be far away?
