PD, one place I keep looking is Hobbs Auto in NH. They're not local but they have some pretty great deals on salvage bikes. I'm trying to convince myself not to buy their TT600 for a track project....

A last note on the seat: I went from a Kawi Vulcan to a Daytona 955 and initially I was concerned about ergonomics on all the controls. But, thankfully, the seat has worn in and keeping the pegs weighted helps the wrists. If all else fails, you can always buy softer seat foam and DIY. Enjoy the new bike!

I had the Triumph gel seat on my '05 955i and loved it. All day riding was never a problem. I also had the Heli Bars on it and taller shield. I plan on setting up the 675 the same way. Living here in the flat lands, I have to usually ride to find twisties. There is a nice "circuit" nearby here, but the good stuff is down state. Just a heads up to you guys on some salvage help. This place has some things. West Coast. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-07...sid=p1638.m118

A TT600 makes an outstanding track day bike. It isn't a race bike, since it is down on power and up on weight in comparison to other 600s, especially current 600s. But, if the point is having a blast, then it is a great choice. Sorry, I am not helping talk you out of it.

It just so happens I have a 05 ST and a 06 675 parked in my shed.

I can say the two compliment each other very nicely.

I have the gel seat on the 675 and find it a marginal improvement over stock, but after an hour or so its still only slightly softer than a plank!

I have done 700kms in a day and also toured with tail bag and throw overs for a week on it. I shift around a lot to keep the blood flowing to the nether regions and I'm exhausted after a full days ride BUT nothing can wipe the smile off my face after riding the 675.

One thing I would recommend doing straight up is ditching the progrsseive rear spring and going for a straight rate unit for your weight and riding style and of course setting the suspension up for you. Also be careful on the stock tyres if the road is wet.

Hope this helps.

Brett.

What's wrong with the spring? Wouldn't that type of spring be more useful if you do 2-up riding every now and then on the 675?

Nothing's wrong with the spring. It just depends on what you are doing with the bike. It would be great if you do the occasional 2 up riding. In a lot of cases, Daytona 675s don't even have pillion pegs and spend most of their time on the track or misbehaving elsewhere. For that kind of riding, the stock spring is a bit stiff, depending upon rider size.

I put an Elka shock on my bike, with the spring sized for my weight about six months ago. Shortly after installing it, a friend and I took a road trip to Portland for a track day with both our bikes in the back. His 675 is bone stock, while mine has the aftermarket shock. Looking in the rearview mirror was pretty unnerving. His bike was bouncing all over the place like you might expect from a bike with its forks strapped down in the back of a van. My bike was just sitting there like it was part of the van. I thought I had really screwed up my bike, because it didn't behave at all like I expect a bike to behave, but once I got it out on the track, I discovered the rear felt a whole lot more planted.

Sure, there is shock valving and adjustment involved, too, but the softer spring made the back of the bike more compliant. The bike started out plenty stable, but now it is even more stable and doesn't hop in certain parts of the track like it used to.

So, there are reasons to change the spring, but it is fine as-is. My friend is like greased lightening on his bike, and he weighs a little less than I do.

I see I see, so I guess that explains why I feel like I am bouncing around a lot when I ride my friends zx-6r. Her's is bone stock too. Considering I am only... 155 lbs... I guess that aftermarket spring is what I should be looking into as well cause I definitely did not like the feel of how bouncy her bike was and I know I won't like it on my own... So should I just replace the spring or stock and spring?

You can replace the spring only or you can replace the shock. I replaced the shock, so I can't tell you exactly what is involved in replacing the spring on the stock shock. It would require removing the the shock either way.

Check out suspension guru, Dave Moss's website. He explains things quite well and gives a good talk specifically about the idiosyncrasies of the 675.
