bike down

Well, my 675 which I've had for 2 weeks hit the deck today. Backed into in the parking lot at work and knocked over. I saw the guy do it and got his contact info so there should be no problems getting it repaired it sisn't look too bad at first but the estimatr added up quickly. scratched lower faring and the turn signal punched straight thru it, cracked upper faring, bent brake leavers and foot peg, scratched headlight, swing arm and engine case. it's a bummer but such is life.

A question for those of you who have laid down their bikes, (you know who you are Will and triplethreat) Did you look at your radiator when you took the faring off? The side tank of my radiator was dented. there was another 675 in the shop which went down harder than mine and it's radiator was dented as well. it seems to be a common thing with the 675. perhaps your race bodywork is stronger that the stock. Regardless you may want to look at it just in case.

Oh the repair estimate= $4600

Yep - I checked mine... Happy to say it was not damaged at all. Probably has to do more with the Woodcraft Rear sets and the fact that the pegs don't fold than anything else. You are right though, the track plastics are stronger than the stock bodywork.

Sorry to hear your bike went down but glad to know you got the contact info of the guy who did it so it can go on his insurance. All that stuff will be expensive...

Take a look at Bike Bandit to see how much retail price is on all the stuff that needs to be replaced so you are sure that the insurance offer is high enough to replace it all back brand new!

No radiator damage here, either. Woodcraft rearsets and GB Racing crash bungs kept the bike pretty much off the ground, although the left clipon got broken clear off.

Another place to check is the steering stop. Mine did not break, but it is common for them to snap off. You don't have to take anything apart to check- just make sure the forks stop turning before the bars hit the tank.

I'm amazed how fragile these machines are, just falling over can cause so much damage. I'm ordering the crash portection and it will be on the bike when it's repaired.

ouch and I thought the damage done to my bike when it got reversed into was bad. I needed new cockpit subframe new cockpit fairing new wingmirror. My engine swingarm and fairing seemed to do ok. when I look back at how my S4 used to do when it got knocked over it sure maked the street triple a much better option for me, but I want fully faired!
At least you have thier detail, I just got left with the bike.

It is very odd how some really spectacular crashes cause minimal damage and other tip overs can be a disaster, like what happened to you.

At a minimum, I think everyone should put on crash bungs, although there are different schools of thought about that one, too. If you go to the track, track plastic does hold up better in a crash, if you get the good stuff, namely Catalyst, Sharkskinz, or Skidmarx. Some of the other manufacturers are less expensive, but don't hold up as well and don't fit as well. There is a European manufacturer making integral color track plastic, but I don't know anything about their plastic except it exists.

As a side note, the worst damage to my TT600 came when it was parked and got backed into by a pickup truck. It was a total loss for insurance purposes. I rebuilt it, and when I got picked off on the freeway about six months later, the insurance company didn't total it again, but chose to repair it. Go figure. You can never know what is going to be a big disaster and what isn't.

The laws of physics state that the impact force is a function of mass and height above ground and has nothing to do with how fast you are going forward. In theory a low side at 100mph should produce LESS damage than someone pushing your bike over in a parking lot. Of course there will be damage caused by the friction of your bike sliding across the asphalt/curb/grass as it decelerates. heh.

The GBRacing bungs were done through a group buy on T675.Net. They can be found through GBRacing on their eBay store or from T3 Racing http://shop.t3-racing.co.uk/

A similiar option is the GSG slider (design if very close to GBRacing). If you want to drill the fairings..... then your choices are woodcraft or R&G sliders. All these are available through stores in the states.
