Ride Height Measurements

After the crash, I took the whole bike apart to inspect for damage, vacuum out all the gravel, and so on. It is back together and running fine, but the ride height settings are all fouled up. If somebody could measure the following and let me know what you find, I would appreciate it very much. I need to get back to a good baseline to adjust from:

1. Fork tube showing above the triple- measure from top of triple to bottom of cap, not including the cap so I can keep the measurement consistent.

2. Front ride height from ground to top of triple, measured through the fairing. If you find a way to measure front ride height from ground to some other point, that's fine as long as you let me know what you measured to.

3. Same deal in the back. I would measure from ground to, uh, what's good to measure to back there? Maybe from the ground to the tip of the bodywork. That would probably be close enough to start with.

Measurements 2 and 3 probably need two people, since the bike would have to be level for it to work. Thanks in advance for your help in figuring it all out.

Will,

I know that measurement number 1 (Fork Tube above the Triple Tree) on my bike was between 3 and 4 mm before I pushed the forks down to being flush with the top of the Triple Tree.

The other two measurements I can get for you, but someone might beat me to it. I injured my back this weekend moving a concrete slab at my mom's house. I'm having pretty bad muscle spasms in my back so I won't be in a position to work on the bike for a couple of days until the back pain subsides. I had an ultrasound and electronic etimulation treatment on it today, so hopefully it will be better in a day or two.

I still need to convert my bike back into street clothes so I can start the winter paint project. I also need to flush out the water wetter and put in some antifreeze for the winter months.

Jeff

Take care of your back! Bad ones are no fun at all. I am not in any hurry, since the bike is fine on the street as is. I have the forks pulled up as well, but I don't know what the rear should be. Also, if I put different tires on the bike, I am really curious what the effect will be. I have been told some tires are really sensitive to bike setup, but without knowing what that means and what the bike's geometry was from the factory, it is a crapshoot.

I will make the measurements and post ASAP.

I should tell you that I currently have a set of 2CT's on the bike, so the measurements from the ground to any fixed point on the bike will be a function of the tire size and the amount of preload in the suspension on both ends. The static sag setting is not the same as it was from the factory since I had it set up for me, so these measurements may not be at all useful to you.

They will be far more useful than a guess, and that's what I have to go on now. Since you changed the forks in the triples, the most useful measurement from your bike is the rear height. I also posted over at triumph675.net and on the NESBA board, so maybe somebody there has the information. I haven't checked today.

bike measurements

Will,
I'm not sure what part of town you live in but I'd be happy to get together with you so you can take whatever measurments you need from my bike. I'd like to pick your brain on suspension adjustment anyway.

I just got my 675 and haven't messed with any of the adjustments yet but could use some schooling. I live in the Northgate area. but would be happy to meet you somewhere.

That would be outstanding! I live in Wallingford, so it is close. Thanks! Would sometime this weekend work? I am pretty sure there is something going on Saturday evening, but otherwise it looks pretty flexible. Send me a PM, or I will send you a PM with more contact information.
