Elka Shock Question for Will

Will,

I'm looking to upgrade my suspension this winter and I'm seriously considering the Elka. WHat did you end up going with? The three way adjustable with standard pre-load adjustment?

Did you talk to anyone about having Elka revalve your forks?

One of my buddies was at the GNCC Motorcross event this last weekend and he picked up an Elka catalog for me at the Elka Trailer and talked to the guy in the trailer about my 675. He said that they could revalve the front forks as well as set me up with a rear shock/spring combo...

Just curious as to your thoughts now that you have ridden on it a while.

Jeff

I am completely sold on the shock. I haven't had the front redone, but if Elka can do it, I might look into it based on how good the shock is. Yes, I got the triple adjustment with standard preload rings. I don't see much need for ongoing sag adjustment once it is set up right.

One of the really nice things about the shock is you can adjust rear ride height with a wrench while the shock is on the bike. If you don't like the setup, you can change everything very easily. The front is what I am having problems with these days, so I will have Elka or somebody redo the forks when I catch up enough on the trackday season Visa bill. You certainly know how that works!

Yep - Got that part of the track day addiction down to a fine science...

Revalving the forks is about a $300 deal according to Elka. They send you the boxes and instructions on how to pask and ship everything, you send them your stuff, they rebuild it and ship it back to you...

May end up going this route also...

thats an excelent deal on the re valve. I just had my tuner do my fork springs and it was $240.00 shipped back to my door. I had to race and couldn't decide on valves in time, and after riding it with the right springs I cant say for sure if it needs them. I also asked him about elka and he said go penske. One of the forum members over at triumph675.net offers a great deal on elka shocks so I didn't realy want to hear that. Im telling myself its just that he is more familiar with penske and can service them more readily. anyone have a comparison?

I can't say what Penske shocks are like, but if Elka does work on forks anything like what they did with the shock, the setup will be perfect. I didn't have to touch the shock after I put it on the bike. I was expecting to have some adjustments, but none were needed and a couple places at Pacific Raceway that caused bad behavior before were no problem at all. The spring is a little softer than stock, but the damping seems better. I couldn't believe the bike would be as improved as it is from swapping the shock.
